240 fuel gage/sending unit question

240 fuel gage/sending unit question

I am driving a new to me 91 240 wagon. It has had the fuel tank/both pumps and sending units redone (before my ownership) I am having trouble with the gas gage as well as the tank overflowing while filling up. Due to the gage not working consistently I am not yet sure if it is overflowing when full or because of venting issues. Any recommendations for things to check or places to start? Any thoughts much appreciated. Pizza Planet Pic for attention.

Broken fuelpump?

A little while ago I was driving my 240 from 1993 (B200F Engine) however the fuel meter is broken so I have a rough estimate of how much was still in the tank and the light wasn’t burning and to my knowledge that does still work. I was low on fuel that’s all I knew and my engine started sputtering while driving on an 80kph road so I pulled over nothing looked wrong and so I thought it might have something to do with the fuel and maybe the light is broken so I tanked a few liters (3 to be exact) of fuel and it worked fine again I drove a bit and it started doing it again so I’m now guessing it is the lower fuel pump that’s weak and has to work harder when the fuel is low because I don’t think I was out of fuel. Is there any way to do a better diagnosis? And what do you guys think? And if I do need a new one which one should I get?

Old Volvo getting some suspension love

Upgrading the suspension on the 89 244. Shortened housing coilovers with Koni Racing dampers, Eibach XT springs, adjustable strut mounts, and adjustable torque rods from BNE. Very excited!

Rubber bushings

Hey all,

Anyone got a line on rubber bushings kit. I want to do mine but I don’t want poly. All the kits I am finding are poly. And I really didn’t want to piece it together. (Just being lazy)

What is that noise

SOLVED ticking speedo light

Coming from the front driver side only going 40
In a hotter climate and thought it could’ve been the dash squeaking but the video picked up a little more than what I initially thought

Air Box thermostat

Hey guys, while replacing my air box thermostat I noticed the lower hose ( to exhaust manifold) was already removed.
Should I delete the new thermostat that I installed or leave it in?

1 month, 1000 miles, a few parts orders and driveway repairs later (and more to come)

And I love every minute. 57,800 when I bought her and 59,200 now. She’s given me some surprises but never failed me. Tons of city, highway and rush hour drives because I’m a madman too. I’ve had to replace/fix:

—tie rods. Barely had any play but inspector was a narc. I’m building up my tool supply so paid quickly to have my local mechanic do it. Def something I can do as I build tools.

—rebuilt wiper jet system with new pump and cleaned lines. Easy peasy.

—intermittent rough idle which turned into a slow Car and angry main pump. Thought the in tank pump was dead but it turned out to be an ill fitting replacement fuse for fuse 5. It was jiggling causing intermittent idle issues and eventually popped out. Put a proper fuse in and she runs so well.

—trunk rust. Stopped the bleeding with some butt cheek rust with some undercoat and a little bondo. Can’t tell it’s there and will cut and weld when I’m ready to paint in a few years.

Things I need to chase down….

Broken overdrive. I replaced the relay and fuse to no avail. Need to get off my ass and yank the shifter. Almost certain it’s wiring. No light on dash and intermittent failure before going dead. No click in brand new relay when triggered.

Wiring harness is a crusty mess. Debating suffering thru it myself with some help from my electrician pops or paying a Volvo guy $700 and driving a few hours for help. I patched up the sketchy stuff and may shore it up a bit more with heat shrink for now.

Rear shocks. They’re tired. I’ll do a full suspension upgrade in my driveway next year.

Then of course I will restore the paint someday and address some small rust spots but she’s a driver and treating me well!

Thinking of removing plastic strip's on bottom of doors and rear mudguards.

Anyone know what it would look like underneath. I'm taking it to a body shop afterwards to get touched up.

Tail light help

Does anybody know what this piece is called and how to replace them? One of the connections looks burnt out. Tail light sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t - the turn signal and brake light always work but the running lights kick in and out until I wiggle this piece around which temporarily gets them back on. Appreciate any advice, I’m new to doing work on this thing! Circuit board looks ok to me.

Rust welding

Fixing all the rust under my 1992 240 sedan. Found a lot of hidden rust. Only at the rear of the car. And got this.. Alot of rust under this plate. Anyone done a similar job? Right now in still getting the plate off so i can first weld the frame and then weld the plate on. But is it possible to buy this plate new? And what thickness is the metal on the frame here?

Thanks.

My garage says i need exact parts..

Hey guys;

I want to do my own discs, pads and parking brake pads.
My garage wont order my parts because they say i have “an inbetween model” wich comes in vented and solid discs.
Does this really make a difference?
And how do i check wich parts i need because my brick is a no history import, the only thing legal about this thing is the mileage because of the service booklet haha.

Please help me out to get this shudder braking pig on the road safely.

Troubleshooting please help

Details, I was doing 40 mph and I hit a minor bump in the road and my car stopped producing speed, it went limp and I slowly cruised to 0 all the electric works it just doesn’t want to turn over, I’ve tried to see if I was getting spark from the distributor and I did not. I’m being told one of the wires dislodged and is making it not want to turn over.

Any thoughts would help apprec

Saving the forgotten

Found this one in a garage. Forgotten and left to rust. The owner just wanted it gone and gave it away for free. 7k miles on the clock, rebuilt engine back in 2001 and hasn’t been driven a mile since. Been standing in the garage for 25 years. I gave it some new fuel, checked the oil/ if anything was broken, gave it some starter gas, then I drove it out from that garage.. took me just a couple of hours .. Remarkable piece of machinery. Imagine in 25 years if someone was to find a forgotten Tesla or other kind of new car, I can’t imagine it would be possible to revive a car like that just as easy as this was. Extremely impressed by this car! Only needs a paint job and accessories like the lights and bumpers, And some love ofc :)
Just wanted to share this story! :)

I think my crankshaft is broken 😢

When i start the car, the harmonic balancer doesn’t turn at all and i am able to grab it and spin it with little force. I don’t want to start the car anymore to record out of fear of fucking it up more than it is already.
How should I proceed? What is the damage? How can i fix this? Is it worth it to even fix this? 1993 volvo 240 automatic
