What's MPI's deal with eligibility periods?

So I'm 60 hours short of the 400. A show I work on delayed its start date.

The show is back on and I'm earning hours again thank God!

Now why does MPI act like I'm a leper when I'm short hours but still obviously working? What does it benefit from this?

Why can't I just give them some money to make up the difference during the qualifying period?

Is it to try and reduce the amount of people on MPI because it's having a hard time funding itself?

Get rid of the green from my new copper??

So this looked great on day 1 but now the copper at my main branch is turned all green. I believe this is from a spray my plumber was using.

Is there a solvent or something I can use to clean this up with?

Heater install with FUTURE SWG preparation

I'm going to get a gas heater installed on my pool that is currently just a VSP pump and a DE filter. Plaster pool.

I want to go to SWG eventually but my wallet can handle the heater at the moment.

Any tips or things I should tell my installer when plumbing in the heater to make sure we have accounted for an eventual SWG?

Can I pipe in a placeholder SWG that passes through?

Flanders XMP-C's at NAB?

Did anyone get a chance to look at any of the new slimmed down XMP monitors at NAB?

I have the chance to color HDR from home and will still do reviews at the post house with a BVM x 310.

I wanted to see if the 10 grand is worth it or if I should go with a TV instead and pocket the difference. I have graded an HDR show on the A95 before and I didn't really enjoy it.

Strapping under house question. Cushioned straps?

To get rid of pesky water hammer issues that haven't been fixed by installing water hammers I plan on going under the house and doing some additional strapping.

Is there a strap everyone recommends for copper pipes in a raised foundation house? I was going to get a roll of copper strapping but I heard about cushioned versions and wanted to hear what everyone's thoughts were.

Installed arrestor and I still get hammer

I installed this arrestor on a 1" supply line and I still get a water hammer when my sprinkler valve kicks on. The arrestor is about 2ft from the valve just out of frame in the picture.

I don't have a PRV and I measured the PSI at the valve at 70psi.

Would a PRV between the city supply line and my house fix this hammering for sure?

Is it illegal if I cut a copper pipe with a hack saw?

I have a 3/4 I need to cut and add an hammer arrestor to but there is a 1/2 line right next to it. I can't get a cutting tool to cut around it

I have 3/4 copper feeding two sprinkler valves. I'm getting a bad water hammer in the house from one of them.

My usual plumbers seem too busy to take the job so I started myself. My plan was to prep the work area for a plumber to make it cost less and easier to bid.

When removing a tree root I cut the 3/4 line feeding the sprinkler valves. Luckily that branch has a shut off separating it from the house.

My question is, to reduce the water hammer where should I put my arrestor? Is where I cut the line an adequate spot to put the arrestor or does it need to be closer to the valve? The valve is in the upper left of the picture.

If closer to the valve, is it okay if I add a sleeve by making space with a hack saw? There is a 1/2 line really close to the cut feeding the sprinklers and I can't get a proper cutting tool in there.

So I have MPI right now but my next show that SHOULD start this week. I'm at 300 hours for my current eligibility period. I'm hoping my next show starts in time and I don't have a lapse but I wanted to know what people think I should do if a lapse happens.

Is there anyone at IATSE or MPI I should contact about getting a grace period? 40 hour weeks will start till August.

If I have to have a month lapse, what do people do that gap? COBRA?

Edit - Thanks everyone! I called MPI and it looks like I might as well just roll the dice with the lapse for a month and if I need to make a claim then I can pay out of pocket and then sign up for Cobra and it will cover retroactively.

Okay my algorithm is feeding me the idea of putting 100+ feet of black hose on my deck and sending pool water through it as a cheap way to heat the pool.

Has anyone here successfully done it?

I'm in so cal with no heater but I do have a solar cover.

I was thinking of getting a 1/2 HP sump pump so I don't have to risk doing damage to my pump or mess with my flow
