Book suggestion for my boyfriend (not an avid reader)

My boyfriend (23M) loves James Patterson books. He used to read a decent much in middle school, loving Percy Jackson, however he hasn't read much since high school and onwards. I love annotating books, and I want to give him an annotated book as he knows I do that for people I love. The problem is that Im not sure of what book to annotate for him. Are there any suggestions for books that have nice hooks, are meaningful, but not too "boring" for someone who isnt the most avid reader?

Edit: I would also love some books that are more inclined on the romantic side. He loves rom coms but isnt a fan of the very cliche romance books. I do think this genre is harder to work with though.
