Make sure you are printing your PDFs with Adobe Acrobat. Truly a Game changer.

Finally used Adobe Acrobat. WOW. I can't believe how good it is. It basically cured all the imperfections in quality, text...even 300 DPI scryfall images still look great.

If I had known it was free sooner (not sure why I had the impression it costs money) my prints would of been this high quality this entire time. Feel like a complete buffoon for not using it sooner. I'm sooo blown away at how clear and real close to looking like an actual mtg card they get now. I thought they looked real-ish enough before using Adobe, but using it now? It looks damn real now. Genuinely.

My main thing that kept puzzling me with printing on Firefox and the PDF file viewer the browser had was the prints would come out fine, but lose quality when my printer was not set to auto color settings. When I would play around with slider settings, and take it off the auto option, the sharpness would completely take a nose dive. Now with Adobe, I can't believe how crisp and detailed everything looks. I feel like without the white back you wouldn't be able to tell a difference now. Insane.

The main thing it fixed? Text. One thing that always bothered me about my proxies was the text. I could never get it as crisp as it looks on a real card and by God I finally have it. Just had to switch programs.

Do not skimp out on using Adobe Acrobat.

Two Silhouette Templates I'd like to share of mine, for the community w/step by step process (4 photos Pls swipe/click thru)

1. 2.5mm Corners Template - Real MTG card corners

(Truly Alan Cha's template, I added the corners and used his template as a guide for dimensions and placement, I'm aware others have done this before, this isn't groundbreaking)

- 2.5 mm corners, like a real magic card

- Please make sure, for this particular template your bleed on whatever proxy site you're using is set to 0.6 or 0.5. Alan's was made for a 0.5, however in my tests 0.6 has worked best for me, and best for proxy makers such as Cry Cry according to his videos.

- Go to send and make cutting preset for your printing material, then cut

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. 6 Pin Credit Card Skins - 6 count (This one is all me)
Silhouette Template for 6 pin chip credit/debit cards.
Ensure that you are using Vinyl Sticker Paper, as Foil does not cut well and might mess up cut during cutting process. Lamination is fine for skins, however laminated card skins may be too thick in size for some card readers to read properly.
Step-by-step Process:
- Click Open File in the upper-left corner
- Select a photo of your choice (Scryfall or any high-quality database of images is suggested for use. You can tell the image is high quality when the image is uploaded into the template because it will appear much larger than the template and you will need to resize photo down to proper dimension to match red cutouts for the skins.
- As for the remaining 5 card skins, upload photos in the same drop-down menu in the upper left corner, but choose merge photo for the rest of the 5 cutouts. This ensures the new pictures added do not replace the first, and are included alongside each image that is uploaded prior to another.
- For each photo - set the width to 2.131 and the height to 3.380. If image turns out not exactly the right size, set the value stated for height to width, and set the value stated for width to height instead.
- Drag resized photo into place of one of the 6 slots.
- Now, go to File in the upper left-hand corner and click print. Print on Vinyl Sticker Paper. Stick sticker sheet into Silhouette and cut accordingly.
- When finished cutting, take each skin and use a corner cutter to cut out the corners. Use small end of the corner cutter.
- When sticking onto credit card just like with foil proxies, peel an inch of the sticker paper off the bottom of the skin decal (I'd suggest the end without the chip) and fit onto credit card. Try to line up skin with card sides, corners, and most importantly, the chip itself.
Peel remaining sticker up, and have it lay down across card and enjoy :)
Note - First and foremost, I wanted to give credit to the influencers/creators that have given me all the knowledge I have for this craft for starters. Credit to Alan Cha, Clippy, and Cry Cry for any of my successes with this hobby. Thank you guys for everything you've done for the community. Please, If you even mutter the words thank you to me at all, thank them.
From proxies to credit card skins!
One day my wife's dad asked me after showing him some proxies I made if it's be possible to make credit card skins, since I've been cutting out proxies with my silhouette. Got me thinking... WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS BEFORE?! Immediately tried tinkering with silhouette studio trying to make my own credit card template with a 6 pin chip.
Turns out. SUCCESS! What do y'all think?
I use sticker paper, print on it then cut it with the silhouette using my personal template.
Any tips for how to share this template if you guys would want to use it? Still not tech savvy enough to figure out that part if you guys could advise how I could share it on here. Would be much appreciated.
For those who have Epson printers... What color setting do you recommend and what are your personal settings?
The ones I want to ask about are standard, Epson vivid and Adobe RGB. And what are your reasoning for choosing either option?
As well as what are your settings as far as contrast, brightness, saturation, cyan, magenta and yellow?
Send pictures of photos if you'd like that showcase your settings at their best. Would much appreciate it.
Comparing Real Cards vs. My Proxies
At this point, why buy real cards unless you're a collector lol. Could of spent $15 for both but spent 12 cents instead. Crazy. Details for setup below.
Some Proxies for a friend, think they came out pretty great
Printed some MPC full arts for friend's new deck. She absolutely loves the art and just wanted to share. Some came out really vibrant and sharp! Can't beat printing 100 cards for only $6 man. Love this hobby.
Printed my wife some Stardew Valley Foils. No longer burdened by bots for Secret Lairs. Amazing.
Wife just gave me her old switch since she picked up the switch 2. Started playing stardew for the first time, and heard about the set ironically coming out the next day. What a time we live in.
Finally found out how to make text crispy on Scryfall images 300 dpi (w/o using upscayl) Epson 8550
if you set the color correction to standard, two check box options will open up. Make sure to turn edge smoothing on, and for text lines options, check - more emphasized.
I've noticed doing Epson vivid does brighten the colors however it takes away the option to check these boxes. I've also noticed thru comparisons choosing espon vivid lessons the intensity (of photo and text lines) of what would be the detail if you clicked auto, fix photo or clicked standard instead.
Memory Error 512mb while exporting at 1200dpi (proxxied)
Does anyone when exporting a high quality pdf on proxxied, experience the error that comes up saying your device's memory is exceeded (512mb) or something along those lines? I read that this has to do more wtih browser memory and not your actual PCs RAM.
I've noticed using Firefox tends to work easier now that I've increased the ram of my laptop from 8gb to 16gb when exporting a full 100 card deck at 1200 DPI.
Not sure how true it is, but online it says that Firefox uses your PCs ram, while every single other browser in like existance uses their own browser memory limit.
How exactly are proxy makers getting past this error when wanting to export at the highest of quality? Are they all using Firefox or something? Could use some answers.
Finally found out how to get 2.5mm (real mtg card size) corners on the silhouette
For silhouette users: For those of you using Alan Cha's standard/letter v6 template, I finally figured out how to adjust corners down to 2.5mm. You have to use the offset tool, and make the weight and height of each card (rectangle) 5mm smaller all the way around.
Then use the external offset tool, and set it to 0.098 in. Then delete the smaller rectangle. You should be left with a rectangle with perfect 2.5mm corners. Duplicate the new shape 7 times to fit the 8 card layout (if you are using landscape) and set each card to the correct X & Y axis. When printing, put in your card's bleed to 0.6, so it cuts evenly while in the machine.
I heard from somewhere Alan Cha the goat, was planning to make a 2.5mm template for the community, but I either have missed it, or have yet to see one. So here is a manual way to do so.
Making my Proxies
Little video I thought I'd put together for fun, and for a visual of my process.
Printing site - proxxied.com
Epson 8550 Printer - https://a.co/d/0cnoVK1J
Silhouette America Cameo 5 Alpha (α) - Smart Cutting Machine - https://a.co/d/0aCvqcFB
Scotch Thermal Laminating Pouches, 200 pack - https://a.co/d/01udOdPf
220 Sheets Double Sided Photo Paper Glossy - https://a.co/d/0gn4ncLf
Dahle 508 Personal Rotary Trimmer, 18" - https://a.co/d/03N6wi00 (mainly cut foils with this)
Crenova Laminator Machine 13 inch - https://a.co/d/0ftkFrHf
Foils -
Sherr 120 Pcs Holographic Stickers Paper 8.5x11 - https://a.co/d/088emY3v
Kadomaru Pro, Corner Cutter - https://a.co/d/051sw1m7
I do not stick my foils onto black cardstock, I just laminate the sticker paper itself with the backing, I don't peel it off, and then cut.
Also, before you complain about the glossy look, I seriously don't care lol. Get matte then, no one is stopping you.
I like the look, quality and feel to them. They print better than matte in my opinion.
Also just to note - the yellow piece of a post it note I put on the bottom left corner is to help the silhouette cutting machine recognize the registration marks. Without it, any color or ink printed very close to the bottom left registration mark, causes the machine to fail reading that particular mark.
Happy proxying my friends!
New proxy maker. Some shots of proxies I've made within the last month. All credit goes to Cry Cry Proxy on YT and this sub
Non Foil:
Printer: Epson ecotank photo ET - 8550 inkjet
Paper: 44 lbs double sided glossy photo paper
Laminating pouches: 3 mil
Foil:
Sherr Rainbow holographic sticker paper
(I actually don't stick it onto cardstock, I just laminate the full page with the paper you're supposed to peel off)
Laminating pouches: 3 mil
Cutting: Silhouette 5a cutting machine, or rotary cutter (mainly for foil since it's more difficult to cut it with the silhouette, I have that blue one everyone has)
Everything can be found on Amazon.
I use proxxied.com, print w/premium glossy default settings, 1200 dpi PDF export settings.
