Productivity Widget that creates motivation, not just tracks it? Effective or Stressful?
Hello! I built a widget app that’s designed to be nothing but motivational. I wanted to create productivity, instead of relying on check-ins or logs that only keep track of productivity.
The idea is simple: A super clean widget that counts down the time remaining in the day, week, month, or year. It sits on your lock screen or Home Screen and instead of “oh there’s only 7 hours left” it serves as a “wow look at those seconds ticking, time is a valuable resource and I should use mine better”. It’s the most subtle reminder to take full advantage of the 24 hours we get every day. It’s there when you need it and easy to ignore when you don’t.
So I’m curious: would you find this type of thing actually motivating? Ive heard a lot of “this would just stress me out” but that hasn’t been my experience with it at all, and I’m curious if that comes down to personality types. I’m also adding a “count up” feature that moves the clock the other way in hopes of combatting the stress.
I tour with bands for a living and my time at home started to blend together in a really unhealthy way. This was my solution that started as something I wanted personally, and it’s grown to this. I’ve found it’s a cool way to look at my day that actually motivates me to spend my time better. Am I alone in that? How much of an impact does personality types have?
Anyways we’re set to launch in the next few days. If you’re interested, feel free to hop on this email list to get notified:
