American Girl Dolls

My childhood doll collection went to ruin after improper storage in a basement. I took these photos before tossing them.

Farewell photos of my moldy dolls

I found these moldy monstrosities in my basement last night. I called trashaway already for a heap of garbage, they're sailing out in a few hours. I took some goodbye photos.

The funny thing is that I was a tomboy as a kid. These were truly my mothers dolls that she bought for me and wanted me to play with, but I never did. That's why Kirsten is in such "good" condition.

The doll with the eye poked out is partially destroyed because as a kindergartener i deliberately destroyed it, I was tired of my mother forcing it on me. I preferred my Hess trucks. But she just bought be a new bitty baby that I never played with.

These have painful memories of being forced into a gender binary. Its also painful because my mother couldnt afford these dolls yet she made such bad financial decisions buying dolls i made clear i didnt want. Like the fuck.

But also they're nice dolls and I appreciate that as an adult. I've flip-flopped in my preferences and I love dolls now. It is a little painful that once I'm ready to appreciate them, they're destroyed. But hey, I got some cool photos out of it and got to share them with all of you.

What happened to my dolls?

What happened to my dolls? What is that white stuff? It's only on the bodies not on any of the clothes.

They were stored in a suitcase in a garage then a basement for 4 years.

The bitty baby in the Gingam and Kirsten are 30+ years old, the other bitty baby is a little newer.

Solved! It's mold. I wish I had given these away before I put them in the basement. A little sad. Whelp to the trash.
