Grateful to have spent my 30th birthday at the AG store!

Grateful to have spent my 30th birthday at the AG store!

My first doll ever was Samantha, so I knew I wanted Raquel this year. I may have intentionally wore something that would match her. 🤭 She is quickly becoming one of my favorites!

Celebrating surviving my first week of law school by adding Ms. Addy to the doll family!

I like to think she’s extra excited that my school is a HBCU :)

my AG place pictures throughout the years:)

Does anyone else remember getting these magazine covers done? All mine were at the Chicago store but I think other locations did them too.

Hard at work 📚🍎

Got my Addy’s and Sarah dressed and ready to take on their new semester. I love how detailed the pieces in her collection match the descriptions and illustrations in the books, I would have had a field day playing with everything if I had them as a kid.

My cyo Liberty (Libby) is my take on a descendant of Addy (hence her newer school outfit). I feel if she were able to sit in class with her great (great-great?) grandmother she would learn a lot about her history of gaining freedom and they’d make great friends. (I also don’t have an extra pair of shoes for her so my headcanon is that Libby takes freedom way too seriously- she’s kinda my wild child.)

Custom Marie-Grace before and after!

I was lucky enough to find this Marie-Grace for 15 dollars and I have been obsessed with her recently! I feel a little bad about using 109's wig because she is such a beautiful doll, but I did not personally remove it (I bought it on its own). My friends have been calling her Pheobe, but I am open to suggestions if you have them :)

Attempted to restore a thrifted Rebecca :)

My first AG doll since childhood and I was a huge collector back then, found this Rebecca in a thrift and had to bring her home! I’ve never restored hair before but I tried my best - the hair was very frizzy but I did everything I could think of to not boil or heat and just preserve /return original remaining curls. Just wanted to share this happy moment as I ordered most of her meet outfit online (it came with the wrong shoes but I don’t mind) and it arrived so she’s now complete :) So excited and can’t wait to start collecting again, genuinely wanted her so bad growing up so finding a Rebecca specifically was so incredibly special to me -it felt like a sign! Here’s before and after! go easy on me lol

Farewell photos of my moldy dolls

I found these moldy monstrosities in my basement last night. I called trashaway already for a heap of garbage, they're sailing out in a few hours. I took some goodbye photos.

The funny thing is that I was a tomboy as a kid. These were truly my mothers dolls that she bought for me and wanted me to play with, but I never did. That's why Kirsten is in such "good" condition.

The doll with the eye poked out is partially destroyed because as a kindergartener i deliberately destroyed it, I was tired of my mother forcing it on me. I preferred my Hess trucks. But she just bought be a new bitty baby that I never played with.

These have painful memories of being forced into a gender binary. Its also painful because my mother couldnt afford these dolls yet she made such bad financial decisions buying dolls i made clear i didnt want. Like the fuck.

But also they're nice dolls and I appreciate that as an adult. I've flip-flopped in my preferences and I love dolls now. It is a little painful that once I'm ready to appreciate them, they're destroyed. But hey, I got some cool photos out of it and got to share them with all of you.

Does anyone else sleep with their dolls?

I started because my cat died recently, and she used to cuddle with me on my bed. Now I have something to cuddle with! Not the same, but it helps.

I wonder if anyone else finds it soothing as well.

Courtney had a great time at Field of Vision

This past weekend, I took Courtney to Field of Vision, a music festival in Colorado! I made her a special King Gizzard sweatshirt, and she got a ton of compliments! She also had a wonderful car camping setup.

What my girls are wearing this week

My last photo with 6 dolls, I go to New York on Friday so this time next week we’ll be up to 10!

Obsessed with how Nellie looks rn

What happened to my dolls?

What happened to my dolls? What is that white stuff? It's only on the bodies not on any of the clothes.

They were stored in a suitcase in a garage then a basement for 4 years.

The bitty baby in the Gingam and Kirsten are 30+ years old, the other bitty baby is a little newer.

Solved! It's mold. I wish I had given these away before I put them in the basement. A little sad. Whelp to the trash.

Got Claudie! 🩵

My family went to New York, and I was NOT expecting Claudie, or even a doll, as a souvenir! Literally jumping up and down, I'm so excited to add her to my collection! 😭💙

Mattel-era items/accessories that would be INCREDIBLE if they were built as well as in the Pleasant Company days

I was looking at a post showing one of the newer doll’s VW bus today (and while I LOVE the woman bringing her doll and VW bus to a music festival and totally appreciated the post), I can’t help but think of how much more incredible the bus would have been if it wasn’t made of wild-colored plastic.

For those of you old enough to remember the true Pleasant company days, where wood items were made of wood, and china was made of China, and even carrot sticks and lunch sandwiches were made of some kind of polymer clay or w/e……. Aka NOT PLASTIC….

Are there items or accessories that come to mind that would be a million times better if they weren’t made of cheap plastic (or in “Barbie colors”)???

My mom was kind of super progressive for a late 80s/90s mom—the only Barbie’s we ever had were birthday gifts from friends/relatives bc she hated the Barbie doll’s insane proportions, lack of character depth besides “OuTfiTs!”, and the sheer plastic crap of it all (and the rayon shitty clothes)

We weren’t rich by any means, and any AG purchase was a BIG & treasured present that we’d play with nonstop, but she had a huge appreciation for the quality of the toys (as well as the excellent books & historical context…I feel like if we were born later, she wouldn’t necessarily have minded the American Girls of Today AS LONG AS the stories were just as good and the accessories/outfits were as well-made & not “plastic crap” as they are now

I won’t go on a diatribe about how I feel Mattel’s AG has basically become “bigger Barbie’s” with cheap polyester overpriced outfits & flimsy plastic accessories (though I could lol..)

But I’d love to know what items/accessories you think would be absolute bangers if they were made made with the Pleasant Company quality design/construction, and not just flimsy plastic or rayon/polyester
