

Furnace problem
So I'm have a really limited space in my workshop. I wanted to make add on to my coal powered blacksmithing furnace so I could melt aluminium, bronze and copper. First version (picture 1, picture 2) managed to melt bronze and copper, but furnace really struggled and the pour wasn't hot enough. It was made of two skins of sheet metal with clay mixed with quarc sand inbetween for insulation. New version (picture 3, picture 4) has a bit bigger diameter, much thicker walls and no insulation.
Now problem is, V2 works even worse, I couldn't melt aluminium bronze. I think it's combination of problems, whole thing is bottom feeded with air, and coal can't get under the cruciable so it blows directly at it which cools it down and i didn't add an insulation to the walls.
My question is, is it worth trying, or should I start building new furnace. Did anyone use anything other than ceramic wool for insulation (it's a bit hard do get it for some reason).
They are not the most simetrical, but they are the first functional tools I made!
So I needed tongs for my metal casting side hobby and these are the product of that. I made them from round 15mm stock bar a friend gave me and the pin is made from weed-wacker drive shaft. I know, I know, they are not the prettiest tongs ever, but I can't stop staring at them lol. Tips and tricks on how to do better are always welcome!
Stairs made from railroad track
This one might be better suited for metalworking sub, but for a beginner hobby blacksmith took me a whole lot of blisters to make this. I found the track buried behind my house. It is a bit too short for the purpose, but i just had to use it because of the stamp on it. Resicza or Resita is a town in Romania (Austria-hungary at the time). Unfortunately the steelworks is now closed, but they do have a cool looking steam locomotive museum
