I’m a staffer for a WI Gov candidate with no chance of winning (maybe next cycle, guess in the comments who it is). Here are my thoughts on the race so far.
There are three viable candidates
I mean, look at any poll or betting market and this is evident. Hong, Barnes, and Rodriguez are each taking up almost exactly a third. Leading in fundraising, online presence, etc.
I will say Crowley is an interesting dark horse, and SUPER charismatic—I wouldn’t be surprised to see a successful statewide run in the future, and he’s fundraising like a mfer. Maybe throw 20 bucks on him and sell if the odds go from 1% to 5%? Idk, I don’t bet on elections.
Barnes is FAR weaker than everyone thinks.
Mandela has no realistic shot of winning this primary. Crowley is siphoning off just enough of the black vote, voters who care about progressivism will pick Hong, and voters who care about electability will pick Rodriguez. At the last convention straw poll, he got less of the vote than Kelda Roys, who also has zero chance. Mandela’s odds are inflated.
Hong and Barnes both have crazy interpersonal issues that will come out before the primary.
Legally contracted not to share, but both of them did some shit and it’s the same incident as each other. Stay tuned.
Toss-up between Hong and Rodriguez right now, but my gut says Hong—there are probably just a ton of low propensity voters that aren’t reachable by polls. What do yall think?
