Serious e-scooter collisions increase in Waterloo region: WRPS

Serious e-scooter collisions increase in Waterloo region: WRPS

>“They are being modified to go much faster than what they're allowed to according to provincial regulation of the Highway Traffic Act,” Staff Sgt. Scott Metcalfe told CBC News...

>In Ontario, e-scooters must follow a speed limit of 24 km/h on roads, bike lanes and trails and they aren’t allowed on controlled-access highways. Users must also wear a helmet.

>Some of the collisions involve youth under 16, which is against the provincial regulation. Metcalfe says people under 16 may not be thinking about the hazards that exist on the road, since they don’t have a licence yet.

Ontario appeal court says Ford can rip out Toronto bike lanes

>"The legislature is free to legislate to remove a bicycle lane from a road — indeed, it may remove a road entirely — without implicating the Charter," reads the decision from three appeals court judges.

So this ruling affects Waterloo Region.

Fuck Ford! He's such a fuck in fucking peoples' lives. Think of the number of injuries and deaths he will cause as a result of this. But hey, we'll be able to drown our sorrows in all the cheap beer we bought at the convenience store thanks to him /s

P.S. apologies for the BREAKING NEWS image and the bad link. That's what the Reddit software generated. It can't be changed. Here's a direct line to the article: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/bike-lane-removal-appeal-court-decision-9.7307310

Waterloo Regional Police Encourage Awareness of Smart Tracking Technology

>Be aware of smart tracking devices and their potential misuse following reports of unidentified trackers being discovered on personal property and vehicles... These devices can be misused to monitor an individual's movements and daily activities without their knowledge. By tracking where a vehicle is parked, when someone leaves for work, or when a residence is vacant, offenders may identify opportunities to commit crimes such as vehicle theft, theft from vehicles, break and enters, and other criminal offences... police encourage residents to treat any unknown tracker seriously and report it to police so the circumstance can be investigated.

Interestingly they don't indicate how many reports they've gotten so far or how many crimes they suspect are related to illicit tracker use.

Mike Morrice's bid for Green Party leadership gains momentum

He’d like it to be “a vehicle for change” that works with other parties, rather than engaging in “partisan theatrics,” he said in an interview... He’s not interested in traditional divisive politics, “planting your party flag and telling everyone else they got it wrong.” Instead, he wants to reach across party lines to get real benefits for Canadians... If he’s elected leader, and if his party were to hold the balance of power in a minority government next election, the first demand would be to change Canada’s voting system to proportional representation.

The seven-month-long freeze in construction for Kitchener, Waterloo, Elmira and other parts of the region that have been under a water shortage will soon be lifted.

The Region of Waterloo announced it found 10 L/s (litres per second) of new water capacity that is available now for municipal allocation.

This water will be added to the 20 L/s that will come online from the Mannheim side stream project toward the end of September. This brings the total available water to 30 L/s, enough to support up to 5,400 homes for up to 10,500 residents and up to 5,000 jobs.
