I would have taken it from a start-up but from Google, who have virtually an unlimited budget this is absolutely sloppy work. Instead of trying to center it in any way or even create an adaptive background, they just stretch it, cropping a third of the artwork. Not to mention that if you play anything with a white cover art, the control completely disappear as they don't change colors dynamically based on the color scheme.
