SNDK Beta is ~3.5 since the spin-off. Very unusual for a Large Cap.

If you want to actually invest long term, I think you better stay away. If you want to gamble, welcome and grab a chair.

I hate to see people, especially those with a family, to lose their hard-earned money because they are uninformed.

If people here encourage you to buy, think twice. If after that you still want to buy, then go for it. None of us here know whether SNDK will go back to 2000+ or not.

I'm not shorting the stock. I'm just trying to divest as quick as possible, so I'm praying for it to go up too, but I won't be holding too long.

Good luck!

The Sell-Off is because many people already made enough money

SNDK was spun off April last year. The results of that was many investors get stocks for cheap including the one-third share from holding WDC stocks. We are talking about $50 cost basis here for many investment houses and employees.

If you research a bit you would easily find that 20-40x gain within a year is unheard off for a multi billion dollar company. Even at today's price many have already gained 20x. A lot of SNDK employees already made 2-3 millions out of their $100k RSU, some who have been holding since WDC made north $5m. Those are just retail investors. Many investment bankers invested a few millions right after the spin-off and they have easily made a couple billions. So that $2000/share price a couple months ago was just the cherry on top.

That's the explanation.

Know your exit point

I'm NOT saying you should sell, but the recurring theme here is that people are holding on desperately trying to make up for what they have missed out or people putting money in hoping to make more, which might not be the right move for you.

I'm saying you should know your exit point, whatever that means depending on your situation. Even if you want to go long, you still need to have exit plan. Exit does not always mean selling all 100% at once. You could exit gradually.

Mine is after SK hynix earnings announcement tonight/tomorrow morning and SNDK announcement next week.

US: Is it rude to share opened boxes of individually packaged snacks at the office?

I came back from an vacation and brought a large quantity and assortments of snacks. All the snacks are individually wrapped and in boxes. Instead of bringing 5-6 boxes of total 100+ pieces for 8 people, I just opened the boxes, mixed them up and put them in a single box. That way each person can try all different varieties.

Somehow I got a feeling that this is frown upon. Is it better just to bring 1-2 unopened boxes? Is it better to just get a small individual boxes for each person next time?

For you to win, someone have to lose

I don't blame people want to make money. Everybody got to survive. But this is a zero sum game. For you to win, someone has to lose. Hopefully the big investment banks who will lose, but unlikely. Swing greater than 5% daily, that's just crazy. So just be careful. Stick to the fundamentals. PE at around 50 is a really good thing for stock this hot.

Edit: to clarify, I am talking about SNDK here since that's the topic of this sub. It's valid for other speculative stocks too. For more established companies their valuations go up and that's how the stocks holders get some of their gains from, I understand that.

Questions to those who have been to Hokkaido without renting a car

What did you do? Where did you go? Did you just stay in Sapporo? If you explore the island, how did you do it?

Thanks!

Those who have been to off-the-beaten-path places many times, how much Japanese do you speak?

I posted about a week ago after coming back from our almost 4-week trip that I kind of had enough. Mainly because I don't speak Japanese. I think if I did speak Japanese, I could've enjoyed a lot more. My wife told me that she misses Japan already and wants to go back next year. I told her I'll think about it. I haven't told her that I'm already missing it too because I really thought I had enough. But not even 10 days, I am kind of ashamed to say that I actually started missing it too.

Someone mentioned about going to off-the-beaten-path places, and I think that's a good idea. But that also means I want/need to be able to speak Japanese. I've been learning it on and off, but now I have to really get serious about this.

Those who have been to off-the-beaten-path places many times, how much Japanese do you speak? Anyone ended up learning Japanese and able to speak because their desire to keep going back?

I thought 8 weeks was enough for me to become tired of Japan, but somehow that place keeps calling me back.

Edit: I can pass as a Japanese from appearance. This last trip I tried to speak Japanese a bit more but my skill is very low, ended up making things more confusing. After that I tried to start conversation with "Hello" just to hint them that I'm a foreigner, they still spoke to me in Japanese. It seems that if they know we are tourists (i.e. westerners or non-east-asian) they are actually more ready and accepting. I guess that what motivates me more also.

Third trip done! Sayonara for now Japan!

I know there are a lot of redundant trip recaps here already, and while I hate gatekeeping, I do agree they are getting old. So I'm going to keep this structured, concise, and as fresh as possible.

About us: Family of 4 from California, two kids early teens. First two trips were Summer 2024 and 2025 around the same time. First trip was 10 full days, second trip was 22 full days. This last trip was 23 days.

I am listing the places we visited below in case you guys have specific questions

First Trip:

  • Base: Ikebukuro(Tokyo), Kawaramachi Gojo(Kyoto), Kinshicho(Tokyo)
  • Tourist sites: Doraemon Museum, Fushimi Inari, Uji, Tokyo Skytree, Disney Sea

Second Trip:

  • Base: Hatchobori (Tokyo), Tenjin (Fukuoka), Hiroshima Station, Kawaramachi Gojo (Kyoto).
  • Tourist sites: Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, Diver City, Nanzoin Temple, Nagasaki Chinatown, Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome, Miyajima, Hiroshima Castle, Nara/Todai Ji, Uji, Kiyomizu-Dera, Arashiyama/Monkey site, Nintendo Museum, Cup Noodles Museum.

Third Trip:

  • Base: Odori (Sapporo), Hakata(Fukuoka), Namba (Osaka), Minato Mirai (Yokohama), Ueno (Tokyo)
  • Tourist sites: Odori Park, Otaru Canal, Kumamoto Castle, Fukuoka Tower, Dazaifu, Himeji Castle, USJ, Nara, Umeda Sky, Dotonbori, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Minato Mirai, Yokohama Chinatown.

Random tips and opinion about Japan:

  • Favorite places: Kamogawa, Kyoto.
  • Favorite restaurant chains: Ootoya, Komeda Coffee.
  • Favorite things to do: shopping for Japan exclusive/Made in Japan merch.
  • Japanese food is great in general. Chinese food not so much. Italian restaurants we tried were great.
  • Non-Reserved Shinkansen is the best. Opt for slower ones for less crowds. If you could afford it, choose Shinkansen over domestic flights.
  • Some train stations have signs/directions on the floor.
  • Sometimes you might be able to find indoor paths in certain areas that Google Map does not show. You could get from Sakuragicho Station to the Minato Mirai pier in Yokohama without going on the street.
  • We tried using Japanese phrases here and there and because we are east asians, they thought we were Japanese, but our Japanese is very basic and it ended up confuses them often. So we've decided to just use English from the get go.
  • &Here Hotels is like new Mimaru. They are practically the same. &Here allows pay on-site, Mimaru no longer does that.
  • Tokyu Stay chain is great, they have washer-dryer combo in each room
  • If you are planning to shop at the Onitsuka Tiger Red Shop in Ginza, there's a long line to just see the basement showroom. I assume those are mainly Mexico 66. If available on the first floor, take a pic of the shoes you want to buy and ask the associates if you could go upstairs for that shoes. It would be much faster. They have Italian Made line. If you could afford it go for Nippon Made store instead across from Tokyo Station.
  • Please keep a plastic bag for your umbrellas and reuse them. The amount of plastic wastes from umbrella bags is crazy.
  • JAL is better than ANA.
  • Anime Merch Shopping: avoid Akihabara like a plague**.** Go to Ikebukuro instead for less crowd.
  • If you like canvas bags: https://maps.app.goo.gl/HYrPoGdowaiUuxpV6
  • UNIQLO stores have Exclusives/Local Collabs in some areas
  • The area one block south of Ueno pond is a kind of redlight district.
  • If you wear cotton shirts, dry them well. I ran into people with smelly shirts there at tourist sites very often. Drop extra coins to the dryer. Some shirts would stay smelly due to bacteria, dump them and get a new one at GU for less than a thousand yen.
  • Summer Rain could be a good thing as it cools down the temperature. This year out of 24 days we only experienced probably 5-6 rainy days, and maybe 3 hot days. The rests were very gorgeous days with comfortable temperature around 25-28C.
  • At this time a 2-week visit is probably the sweet spot. Three weeks was too long for me.

Closing: Japan is a great place to visit, and perhaps for me, is the best. But after a while temples, shrines, shopping centers, has become look too familiar. So for now, this it for me. I'm sure I will miss Japan in the future. And if I were to go back, I will try to improve my Japanese.

Question to those who are still visiting Japan on regular basis: What motivates you?

Thanks this subs for sharing information! Feel free to ask questions!

Onitsuka Tiger Italian Made Tokyo locations?

Does anyone know where I can find the Onitsuka Tiger Italian Made shoes in Tokyo? Some YT videos mentioned the Shinjuku store, I am hoping I can find them in Giana or Tokyo Station stores. Do you know if the Nippon Made or regular stores carry them? Thanks!

Soccer Jerseys Tips

If you’re thinking to get some soccer jerseys while in Japan, a few fyis:
- Kamo has a lot of Japan NT home jerseys, but the popular ones like Nakamura and Ueda are mostly sold out.
- Unlike in the US where you can only find US, Mexico, maybe Canada and some major countries like Germany, you can find other countries like Norway, Senegal, Morocco etc.
- If you’re like me looking for J League local teams jerseys, I found Sports Depot by Aspen have the best prices. They had more sales too.
- I don’t know if because the WC is going on, but the stores sell more NT jerseys than J League jerseys. I haven’t been to Tokyo yet, so maybe they have more stocks there.

Many said Benavidez will beat all Bivol, Beterbiev, Opetaia and maybe even Usyk

Benavidez is currently one of the best boxers. I admit that, but I just don't see him beating those 4. He's been fighting smaller or/and older guys until and been calling out older and smaller 5'8" Canelo for the longest time.

His resume is less impressive than you think:

  • Lemieux: old/over the hill middleweight
  • Plant: ok fighter
  • Andrade: old/over the hill
  • Gvozdyk: old/over the hill
  • Morrell: decent win at a time. arguably lost to Khataev.
  • Yarde: average fighter with less than average resume.
  • Zurdo: tbh I'm not really sure how good Zurdo is, but he's a slow fighter and perfect matchup for Benavidez.

Which one of those fighters at the level of those 4 above? Or even close to them?

People said his blazing hand speed will overwhelm even Bivol. His hand speed only work for a stationary target like Zurdo. Do you think he can keep up that rate against Bivol? It may work against Beterbiev and Opetaia assuming they don't overpower him first.

Rationally, how you think Benavidez would beat those 4? Especially Bivol and Usyk?

Some people even said that Benavidez might be better than RJJ.

June 2026 trip: 14 days of rain out of 24 days

We are going to Sapporo, Fukuoka, Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo. The way the forecast stands now, 14 out of 24 days will be raining/storm. Surprisingly our 4 days in Fukuoka will be partly cloudy. I know weather changes all the time, but if it stands, it won't be fun. At least the average temperature will be 79-80 degree.

Last year IIRC, we had 6 rainy days out of 22 days. It wasn't too bad, but some of the trips were not as enjoyable as it could have been. A couple years ago we went for 10 days and there was only 2 days of rain.

If anyone going there soon, what's your strategy? Those who have travelled during rainy seasons in the past, how did you handle it other than umbrellas and raincoats? Any tips and tricks?

Thanks!

Taxi Vans for New Chitose Airport to Sapporo-Odori route (and vice versa)

Would taxi vans be willing to take passengers from CTS all the way to Sapporo and (vice versa)? The reason I'm asking because in some countries taxis would not be willing to go too far if it means they have to drive back without passengers.

The timing will be around noon on a weekday. Considering there are buses and trains, I'm wondering if they might refuse service since they might not get passengers coming back from Sapporo. Also being a van, which is more expensive, will make it harder to find customers.

In case you are wondering why taxi, the answer is for convenience reason especially going to airport in the morning.

Thanks!

We went twice, 10 days and 22 days. We went to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Hiroshima. We visited the standard/common tourist spots.

Going this summer again for 24 days. Current plan: Tokyo -> Sapporo -> Fukuoka -> Himeji -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Yokohama -> Tokyo.

We've NEVER been to Mt.Fuji, Hakone, Enoshima (went to Kamakura and the train was jam packed), Nikko, etc. We never stayed at a Ryokan.

We are planning to do daytrip to Nikko (from Tokyo) and/or Hakone (from Yokohama).

Our last leg will be a week in Tokyo. We are going to shop like crazy then.

We are not planning to rent a car. We are a family of 4 with two teenagers.

We like Japan a lot, but I think this third time will be our last for a while.

Where would you go, and what would you do there if this were your last trip?
