In Antarctica, including South Georgia - What can you carry on shore ?.

I read somewhere that there are some strict rules in Antarctica about what you can take ashore from the ship - for example, you may not be allowed to bring a tripod, and you apparently can’t even put your backpack down on the ground. 😳
If that’s the case, you could be standing for quite a while with nowhere to sit, so it sounds like it’s important to come ashore light and be prepared to stand for extended periods while ashore.
Could someone please clarify the actual rules and regulations, and share any tips on how best to manage them? Thanks!

Premiere Pro + Insta360 I-Log LUT Workflow

Are there any experienced Adobe Premiere Pro users here working with Insta360 I-Log footage and the official Insta360 LUTs?
I’m trying to establish the correct workflow for converting I-Log footage to a good-looking Rec.709/cinematic result. I’m reasonably comfortable with Premiere Pro and would prefer to stay with it rather than learn DaVinci Resolve, provided I can achieve comparable results.
I’ve downloaded the official Insta360 LUTs and installed them in Premiere Pro for easy access. What I’m unclear about is the correct Lumetri Color workflow:
• Should the Insta360 LUT be applied under Basic Correction or Creative → Look?
• Should the LUT be applied before or after exposure, white balance, contrast, etc.?
• Should I use Basic Correction for the initial technical adjustments and then apply the LUT under Creative, followed by further grading?
• Is there a recommended Input LUT → correction → creative grade → output workflow for Insta360 I-Log?
I’m mainly interested in getting the best possible cinematic result while maintaining natural skin tones, good dynamic range, and avoiding the overly strong/processed look that LUTs can sometimes produce.
If someone experienced with Premiere Pro and Insta360 I-Log could outline their preferred workflow, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Luna Ultra Joystick

There’s no question, I’m very pleased with the Insta360 Luna Ultra. It has exceeded my expectations and delivered more than I expected, especially compared to my DJI Pocket 4P.

One feature that really stands out is the remote control. Being able to control the gimbal from a distance remotely is a complete game changer for me.

That said, I’ve run into one issue. Using the joystick to pan the gimbal isn’t as smooth as I’d like. It either moves too quickly or too slowly, and the start and stop of the pan don’t feel seamless.

Has anyone found a good way to achieve smoother pans with the remote? Are there settings or techniques that have worked well for you?

Combining Built-in Filters with I-Log

So far, my workflow has been: record in I-Log, use the correct ND filters, then post-edit for color grading — first applying the best available LUT, followed by minor adjustments.

I hadn’t realized until yesterday that while recording in I-Log, you can also apply one of the built-in Leica filters simultaneously. So far, I like the “Natural” filter best. Having tried this for the first time yesterday, I was once again impressed — first with the immediate “pop” visible on the LCD preview, while still knowing I’ll need to apply a LUT and minor adjustments in post.

Do you have any thoughts on this as an ongoing best practice, and any suggestions for further refining the setup? I should also mention I’m recording in 4K-60fps.

Thanks

Transferring Files From Luna Ultra

Is there a setting on the Luna Ultra that allows files to be transferred directly to a computer via a USB cable, without having to remove the memory card?
I can’t seem to find any setting that enables this, so I’ve had to remove the memory card each time I want to transfer files. File transfers work fine once the card is removed, but I’d much prefer to transfer files directly from the camera if that’s possible.

Insta360 Luna Ultra used upside down - 180°

Can the insta360 Luna Ultra camera be used rotated 180°, like upside down. And rotated back 180° post edited ?.

The reason for mounting it upside down is to get a lower angle, that cannot be achieved by it being upright.

Are there any gimble limitation to doing this.

Insta360 Mic Pro and DSLR Camera’s

The Mic Pro with the two microphones works very well with the Luna Ultra, but I haven’t been able to get it working with my video settings on the Nikon Z9.
Has anyone successfully configured the Mic Pro with the Mirrorless DSLR Z9 camera ? - If so, could you share your settings or explain how you got it to work?

Testing CYNVO Professional Filter Kit - ND8

I received my filter kit today from Amazon: Luna Ultra Filters Kit for Insta360 Luna Ultra Accessories, 7-Piece | Include Adjustable CPL, UV, Black Mist 1/4, ND8, ND16, ND32 & Light Pollution Filters, Magnetic Quick-Release Lens Filter Set.

I started testing it right away. It’s a bit overwhelming because there’s just so much to explore, especially when you’re eager to see results quickly!

These shots were taken with the ND8 filter. My immediate reaction after taking a few RAW photos was: Wow!! I’m really liking this camera, and I’m already feeling like I don’t need to wait for the 4P. The Luna Ultra is turning out to be a fantastic pocket camera!

I’ll keep posting results from the other filters in the set. In the meantime, here are my “quick and dirty” results from the ND8. https://galleries.benegal.com/Insta360-Luna-Ultra/Testing-Cynova-Filter-Kit-ND8/n-qRm7cc

Let me know if you have questions.

The Luna Ultra Heats Up Significantly During Prolonged Recording.

I did a shoot lasting approximately 30–40 minutes. The camera was mounted on a tripod and focused on a birdhouse, recording Tree Swallows feeding their chicks. I was shooting in 4K at 60 fps using I-Log.

During the session, I stopped recording briefly three or four times because the screen went blank. I’m not sure why that happened, but aside from those short interruptions, the camera was recording almost continuously for most of the 30–40 minutes.

By the end of the session, the camera had become noticeably hot. In my opinion, it would not have been advisable to continue recording for much longer. It seems that prolonged continuous recording in these settings can generate significant heat, so it’s definitely something to be aware of.

For now, my takeaway is to keep recording sessions shorter whenever possible or allow the camera to cool between takes. If anyone has found a better way to manage the heat during extended recording, I’d be interested to hear your suggestions.

Lens and Screen Protector for Insta360 Luna Ultra

Any thoughts to using Lens and Screen Protector for Insta360 Luna Ultra. I think for the lens, maybe not so, as I plan to use filters. But surely there is a benefit for the screen.

Insta360 10-bit I-Log LUTs - For Luna Ultra

I’m trying to better understand how to work with I-Log footage and apply LUTs in Premiere Pro.

I downloaded the set of six LUT files from the Insta360 website (Insta360 10-bit I-Log LUTs). They all have the .cube extension. I was able to apply each of them successfully to my I-Log footage in Premiere Pro, and I can clearly see that they change the look of the footage.

What I don’t understand is the purpose of the six different LUTs, what the differences are between them, and how to know which one to use for a particular clip or project.

Could someone please explain how this process works and how to choose the appropriate LUT? Thanks!

A Blank Screen Appears Shortly After Recording Starts

I received my Luna Ultra over the weekend and started testing the various video settings. I’m pleased so far and haven’t experienced the issues some others have reported. That said, one issue I am running into: shortly after recording starts, my screen goes blank/black. It comes back when I tap the screen. The Blank / Black screen is also captured in the recording when I playback. I’m not sure what’s causing it, but I recall changing the auto-off settings — there are two options, one that turns just the screen off and another that turns the whole device off.

I suspect one of these is triggering the blank/black screen. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks.
