Struggling between nursing or medtech as someone who’s working on their dreams/goals outside college

upcoming 1st year college here! I am confused on whether to choose medtech or nursing. I did a lot of reflections, and it’s nice if you give me advice. Here’s a COMPLETE BREAKDOWN of everything. My goals, concerns, and the comparison of why nursing or medtech:

GOAL:
-able have time to work with my personal goals or dream outside school.
-able to earn money by being a content creator in YouTube and doing side hustles while in college.
-Using my college degree as an opportunity for me to ONLY go abroad. I don’t exactly have a dream course but I choose these 2, because it aligns with my interest which is science.
-financially stable

CONCERN:
-I’m scared that the course might eat my time and no space to work on my goals outside of school. Also, I don’t want my college course to define me, I believe there’s so much life outside of school and that’s what I’m trying to build and also by becoming financially stable and free.
-hard for me to decide as I’m someone who figures out once I’m already in it. I eventually learn to love it once I find it.

TRAITS I wanted to get from the course to become the best version of me:
-more confident
-more disciplined
-more communicative
-more resilient
-more patient
-good leadership
-good connections
-able to adapt and build a strong personality
-good at public speaking

Personal goals:
-Building my YouTube channel and earn money from it(YouTube includes editing and sometimes animation)
-An online side hustle that I can also earn money from it
-joining school orgs or clubs for networking, leadership, and improving my public speaking and communication skills
-weight loss journey, become lean and fit
-have good mental health and healthy habits
-7-8 hours of sleep every night, okay if 6 hours
-hobbies such as my creativity in art
-good study habits(self explanatory for school)

MEDTECH and NURSING
-I am aware that both have its own difficulties. Asked plenty of medtech and nursing students from the school I’m studying for college and both of them have struggles. Medtech students will say that they hate it or love it, same goes for nursing. Both of them also have time for personal goals too. For medtech students, they mentioned that 1st-2nd year were the best times to join orgs but 3rd-4th were very tough and heavy on school works, so less time for things outside of school. For nursing, they weren’t specific on the year levels but they said it is completely manageable to balance both hobbies and school.

Why medtech?
-at first, I choose this because I believe nursing is “harder” than medtech so it’s something I find it safe and believing that I have more time to work on my personal goals than nursing.
-the plan I made was to specialize to be a nuclear medtech so the income would be better than being a regular medtech and then go abroad. Perhaps doing the work in lab is very peaceful but I don’t know the actual schedule in the actual job though. Just hope that it’s good for work life balance.
- there are times that I find it not worth to study because it’s a hard course and completely underpaid in the Philippines, but I’m going abroad though? And I’m not relying medtech to be my only source of income, I have YouTube and side hustles!
-very nice to work in abroad but it’s slow, I have a cousin who is a medtech in the USA so maybe I can go there.
-less patient interaction, yes peaceful but I want to become someone who is more into communication so I don’t think this field will help me become that person? I want to leave my comfort zone.

Why nursing?
-Good opportunity and a flexible job, demanding and can go abroad faster than medtech. At first, I didn’t think of this because again, this course seems very intimidating for me bcs of the nursing students that’s been saying their opinions online. It’s focused on patient care, I can only figure out once I actually try and be in it to see if I love it, but based on the things I’ve done at home. Whenever my mom gets sick, I serve her and it was okay. Oh and whenever my little cousins be left at home, I babysit them, cook for them and I love doing that. I don’t know if that aligns with nursing. I find myself to comfort someone during their vulnerable times and I love helping them, whenever they get sad or broken at something. I give my friends tips and advice, and saying that things will be doing great etc.
-the plan I made was to go abroad and choose to be a soft nurse or etc. for a work life balance.
-again, nurses in the Philippines is completely underpaid but the night shifts and the work must be hella stressful, even if I don’t rely on nursing as my main source of income. I am scared, but hey, balance is built! And it doesn’t matter if it’s low, I choose a good workplace that doesn’t ruin me because I also have another source of income. But of course there are times I have to suffer in bedside nursing bcs it’s part of the requirements, which is experience, right?
-more patient interaction, I am someone who forgets easily and zones out so I’m scared that I make mistakes, but I’m sure I’ll learn it and lock in because I’m dealing with real people and that’s enough reminder. Oh and it def helps me improve my communication, I’ll be dealing with mean and good patients there and it’s nice to learn a bit of psychology too right? Haha
-very nice when going abroad as a nurse, I have a cousin who is a nurse in the UK so it’s good. With experience, I’ll choose to be a soft nurse.

My reflection: I learned that balance is built, not by the course. I may not have the best systems and discipline right now but I am willing to improve and show up everyday. I believe that by the process, I become the person that I desire to be. These 2 courses may not be full of sunshine and rainbows, but I always remember the goal.🏋️‍♀️✨🙏

Oh and I know that the process is difficult, like passing the board exam, work experience, taking the NCLEX, and all of that stuff, and I really wanted to hear a step-by-step process of it. Thank you guys so much and I’d love to hear your insights, tips, and advice! 🫶
