Freaking out about my housing situation as a senior
Hi everyone! I wanted to ask some advice on what to do in the situation I’m currently in.
For context I signed a lease months ago for this one house with 4 other senior girls I met on Facebook. I was set on it and painted a picture in my head of what my senior year was gonna look like living there. Hosting, fun crafting nights, etc.
Except I never actually toured the place and I hate the room I’m going to live in. I am such a natural light window looking out the outdoors person and I have been struggling a ton with mental health recently and having my view and sunlight has been really helping. I know it’s my fault but between dealing with so many things it slipped my mind I signed, I was happy and now we’re less than 2 weeks away from move in. I am freaking out.
And so I considered subleasing. And I have found 3 people interested that I think would be a great fit for the house. Now it’s the matter of if what’s my next move so close to the school year.
I met a girl that seems chill and is open to rooming with me and looking for a place. I was excited at the thought of finally clicking with someone after looking for days but now I’m just sad because I’m mourning the college experience I thought I was gonna have my senior year, which is living in a house with other girls, hosting parties, etc. I know I can absolutely still do fun things wherever I am but I’m still pretty sad. We found another girl that’s looking for people to join her lease and it all seems great location wise and everything, but I didn’t get the best vibe from the girl I don’t know it was just a feeling. She was nice and a friend of a close friend of mine but she talked about how she’s very confrontational and direct and likes to put sticky notes all around and I don’t wanna deal with that tbh. I keep my space and common spaces clean but I don’t wanna tippy toe around my place and be policed. I’m jumping to conclusions but I just wasn’t vibing with that.
Now another opportunity has presented itself. My close friend is an RA in a university apartment and the studio 2 bedroom apartment has an open room and I can sign up. The room is very big and has a decent view. It’s in the 6th floor so ton of natural light. The kitchen space is compact and there’s no living room which sucks, but I could try this room into a fun hangout space because it is big. I love my fried she’s very type B I’m more in the middle but she’s so fun and I feel like having at least someone I’m close to near me would be very nice. I’m just sad that if I were to live there I couldn’t host the house parties or do some of the things I wanted to do. It feels silly going back to a university apartment (I did it my sophomore year) but it feels that it would be best for my mental health.
I’m just torn on what to choose. To be completely fair, the girls at the house aren’t close friends, I have been in contact with them for months but we’re not close. It was more of just the possibility of creating fun memories in a house. But again the room is just so small and the window faces another house, I feel like I would be claustrophobic. And with my mental health I just don’t think I can do it genuinely. I am also someone who likes chilling on the couch and watch tv so I guess I could try to spend my time other spaces in the house but idk!! I’m so anxious it’s like I’m trying to control the outcome but I’ll never know truly.
Last option would be to find an affordable studio. There are some a bit further from campus but they seem decently nice.
I am also in a sorority and have a space to hangout with friends and such. I also have other friends with apartments that have a living room and love to have events, so really I’m just sad I won’t get to have that my last year if I choose to live in the university apartment.
What do you all think? Maybe any past seniors have some advice on what you think the right decision would be if you were in my shoes. I’m just frustrated none of my options are exactly what I want, and I blame myself and I’m so so devastated.
