How concerned should I be? (12 weeks pregnant with a 6cm fibroid)

Hello - I’m so glad this community exists! I am just learning what a fibroid is, though apparently I’ve had one/some for quite some time.

I recently had my 12-weeks pregnant scan for my first pregnancy and saw a note that I have a single anterior fibroid measuring 6.6 x 5.9 x 5.2 cm on my uterus. Edit to add: My placenta is also anterior, though I’m not sure from the report if they overlap at all.

I checked and it was 5.6 x 5.5 x 4.6 cm at my 8 week scan so it has grown quite a bit.

I looked back further because I had an ultrasound in March due to a kidney stone before I was pregnant and in that scan the note says “Two subserosal fibroids are noted in the region of the uterine fundus measuring up to 3 cm.”

Up to now, no one has mentioned fibroids to me at all. I had an appointment with my midwife after my 8 week scan but I’m not convinced she actually reviewed the scan. I have a message in to her for more information, but I have been researching what this might mean for me and it sounds like there is a good chance it won’t have an impact, but also a good chance it could cause some serious complications. I am really not sure how concerned I should be.

I have been asking around in other pregnancy groups and things but it seems no one else has experience with a large fibroid (I’ve only been able to connect with folks whose fibroids less than 2cm so far) and it’s freaking me out even more.

Any insight or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Fibroid?

Just got my 12 week scan and baby is looking healthy (yay!) but they noted a large anterior fibroid on my uterus measuring at 6.6 x 5.9 x 5.2 cm. Looking back at the scan I had at 7 weeks 5 days, it was 5.6 x 5.5 x 4.6 cm, so it's grown a bit.

They also noted that my placenta is anterior as well, though I’m not sure if they overlap.

No one mentioned it to me at all after my first ultrasound. I just happened to google it this time around because I wasn’t sure what that note meant. However, I am now googling and it sounds like it could cause some scary complications.

Does anyone else have a fibroid they are monitoring or had one in the past? I have a message in to my midwife, but not sure how concerned to be. TIA!!

Nervous to tell my family

I am a few days shy of 12 weeks and have told a few people about my pregnancy but really only a couple friends and a colleague, all of whom I felt confident would be a good support and also wouldn’t be totally shattered if something went wrong. I still haven’t told my closest friends or any family. It has been easier to tell people the good news if it feels like they could handle the bad news if it came. But eventually I need to tell the people close to me..

I am most scared to tell my mom. She is going to be beyond excited. She is the only one of her siblings/cousins without grandkids and my only sister has been very clear she is not going to have kids for many years. I have always been a bit ambivalent, and I’m now 36 and a FTM, so I think my mom has been trying to come to terms with the fact that she won’t be a grandmother. If I tell her and then something went wrong, I think she would take it harder than I would (and believe me, I would be devastated).

On top of that, we have kind of a strained relationship. I love her very much but she has always had big emotions that often fell to me and my sister to manage. I live 3,000 miles away from her for a reason and I only talk to her maybe once a month. The last time I visited home (for a work trip) we had a huge blow up fight about me not prioritizing her feelings, and I kind of let loose about how exhausting it is to be around her and why I have intentionally been creating space.

I am really concerned that once she knows, she’s going to really start pushing some of the boundaries that it has taken me years to build up, and at a time when I really don’t have the capacity to let her be the main character.

I am also worried because she just bought a camper van and is starting her van life era, and my worst nightmare is that she will drive across the country and park outside my house indefinitely.

I am also worried about telling my sister, who is kind of hostile to the idea of having kids and is actually scheduled to have a hysterectomy for medical reasons in November. I have no idea how she will react. And then my brother and sister in law have been TTC for over 8 years so it feels complicated to tell them as well.

The whole announcement thing really has me in my head. Any experience or advice you care to share would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

Fear of postpartum psychosis

I live in Massachusetts and there is a big trial going on right now that involves a mother (Lindsey Clancy) who developed postpartum psychosis. I’ll skip the details of her crime here, but I went down a rabbit hole listening to testimony yesterday and now I’m spiraling.

My dad has suffered from severe bipolar disorder my whole life and while I never developed bipolar, I have at times struggled with depression, and a family history of bipolar puts you at higher risk. Also being a ftm puts you at higher risk.

My mental health has not been great so far in pregnancy and it has been worrying me a bit, though I have developed tools over the years to help manage it. But the idea of brining my newborn home and then developing hallucinations and paranoia and overwhelming intrusive is absolutely terrifying. I know it is rare, but it happens once or twice out of every 1000 births (0.1-0.2%), and I am higher risk.

Has anyone experienced pp psychosis or know someone who has experienced it and it was managed and everything ended up being fine? The Lindsey Clancy case is a worst case scenario of what can happen if it is not properly addressed and treated but it might help ease my anxiety if I knew that most who develop this condition come out the other side relatively unscathed. TIA.

Hiking Cotswold Way at 16 weeks?

My partner and I are planning a trip during the second trimester, I’ll be about 16-18 weeks.

We are considering hiking the Cotswold way. Thinking to do it over a 10 day stretch, which would mean about 10 miles per day over rolling hills. We are both frequent hikers and love the idea of an inn to inn through hike with luggage courier service so I would only be carrying water and snacks.

I am a bit worried about how much energy I’ll have or how I’ll feel, but if we need to skip a day, I’m guessing we could find a taxi to our next destination and keep going after a rest? Am I being too ambitious?

I will ask my doctor at my next appointment, but I know we have many from the UK in this group and wondering if this kind of trip feels feasible. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Husband encouraging exercise

I know he is trying to be helpful, but it is making me feel awful.

For context, I am obese, and had started seriously trying to lose weight about two months before I got pregnant. I had lost about 12 lbs and was hitting a really good groove with diet and exercise and overall feeling really good about it. I had every intention of continuing my exercise routine and healthy eating and hopefully continuing to gain muscle through my pregnancy. But the first trimester has been humbling to say the least.

I still walk our dog twice a day and get about 11k steps on average, but I have really been struggling to get my workouts in, and my diet has not been the best either. I have had a lot of nausea but also famished all the time and constantly craving cheesy, greasy, fatty foods.

While I feel like I’m fighting for my life, my husband has seemingly doubled down on hit fitness journey. Longer workouts, very restricted eating. He always makes sure we have lots of prepared protein and fiber forward foods prepped in the fridge. I mostly eat what he makes but sometimes I just can’t stomach it.

He is not doing anything to overtly pressure me. He mentions every once in awhile how important exercise is during pregnancy and says he really liked how we were getting fit together before I got pregnant. I know he means well, but it is making me feel so much shame. When I miss a workout because I’m so exhausted, I have a hard time giving myself grace and just feel weak and lazy and like I’m making excuses. I feel like I’m letting him and our baby down.

I got 3 workouts in this week and honestly cried through all of them because it just feels so awful to be in my body right now.

I don’t know how to find a balance where I can feel good about the way I’m treating my body. I want to feel strong and empowered and healthy and right now i just feel weak and ashamed. Anyone else going through this?

No 8wk ultrasound?

Hello! First pregnancy at 36, 5 weeks along today!

I had my intake appointment and they did urine and blood test, but didn’t schedule me for a first ultrasound until 11.5 weeks.

It seems like lots of folks are getting scans around 8 weeks. Is that standard or is that primarily for high risk situations?

I am 36 with a 31 BMI, so I think that puts me in a high risk category anyway. I have lots of anxiety as it seems like everyone I know has suffered a loss and my main symptom is pretty regular cramping (not worse than a period, but pretty had) and I had some postcoital spotting which freaked me out, though Ive read thats normal.

Should I push for an earlier scan or go to a boutique?
