why are fewer parents not passing down their knowledge and skills to help their kids survive and flourish?

ive spoken to and read accounts from many millennials and gen z folks who were never taught basic life skills: cooking, cleaning, managing a household budget, home and car repairs, how to deal with finances such as savings and credit cards, how to rent an apartment, deal with roommates, get utilities started, conflict management, and so on. most of these people - including me (millennial) were told by our parents to "figure it out" and left hanging in the wind.

to be very clear: i am *NOT* saying this is happening to ALL or even most millennials or gen z. this questioning is based on my experiences, my friends' experiences (and what they told me about the millennials and gen z they heard from), my co-workers, and reading about peoples' experiences online.

what gives? parents are supposed to teach their kids this stuff, so that they can survive on their own as adults.
