Living in Sweden but freelancing for a federal agency abroad?
Hej everyone! I have a tricky tax question for you that I just can't figure out myself. Maybe some of you can!
I am a German EU citizen. Say I were to move to Sweden and permanently live there.
I am currently working as a freelancer for a federal authority in Germany on a project basis. So they are not my employer, I am self-employed and I have to apply anew for every project. I pay taxes in Germany and I pay my own social security / health insurance here as well. The projects run for 1 to 2 years and sometimes overlap.
The practical work I do takes place in Germany and goes on for a couple of weeks. Then afterwards, I need to do a lot of computer work, processing data etc. which of course I do remotely from home.
So if I were to live in Sweden, I would like to spend a couple of weeks in Germany working there and then return to Sweden to do the digital work from home.
As a permanent resident in Sweden I would of course have to be taxed in Sweden and not in Germany. The fact that I work abroad and not fully remotely is what is bothering me.
So would I only have to register as a freelancer in Sweden and declare my taxes accordingly and that's it? That would be nice but I feel I'm not seeing the whole picture here.
I will also gladly read up on that topic myself, if you can send me to the right website.
Thanks so much in advance!
/edit: I don't have a GmbH, I am a solo entrepreneur and working in a so called "Freiberuf" in Germany.
