Would love to hear about La Scène (2star restaurant)

I’ve tried searching this sub for anything referring to La Scène, but haven’t had any luck.

I’ll be going to France for the last half of August. We start in Paris for 4 nights before travelling south. It’s my 40th birthday, so I wanted to book one high end fine dining restaurant with a tasting menu. I really love when there’s an element of theatrics and something unexpected involved. We knew we’d want a course of either duck or beef involved. Prefer French cuisine but open to others. We want to have fun during our dining experience, so not something that is overly stuffy or quiet.

My friend and I did a lot of searching, realized that about half of the restaurants we’d put on our short list were closed for the dates we’d be in Paris, and finally landed on La Scène. Others we had considered: Aspic, Accents, Septime, Passionné, and Restaurant H.

So if you’ve got anything to share about these restaurants, I’d love to hear it!

Social dancing in Paris?

I’ll be in Paris for a few days in mid August. I’ve heard that there is social dancing on Quai St Bernard most evenings in the summer but I’m not clear on what type of dancing (certain styles on particular nights? Free for all? Any WCS?). Searching this sub, I saw a comment to look for “Westies Pirates” fb group but I can only find one that is based in San Francisco.

The group I’m travelling with doesn’t dance WCS but I’ll be going to the Frenchy Westy in Lyon the following weekend so would love to have the chance for a couple dances without inconveniencing my friends too much!

Would love a tip to redirect my search in the right direction!

Timing for harvesting and succession planting

I’m growing radishes for the first time. I’m in zone 6b (coastal Nova Scotia).

I grew them from seed, planted just over 3 weeks ago. Our weather has been mostly cool since then (a few frost warnings the week after planting, then 8-20C during days since then).

I had looked for a few videos online and followed one that said to plant 3 seeds together in each hole because they would push each other away as they grew, increasing the harvest without negatively impacting the vegetable itself. That same video said to succession plant every two weeks, but I’m working with limited space so don’t think I can plant more until at least half of them have been harvested.

I’ve also read that if you leave radishes too long before harvesting, they get very woody. I pulled one yesterday and the radish was verrrrrrry tiny.

When should I harvest?
Should I replant with single seeds instead of 3 seeds together?
Why are they so tiny?

Paris recommendations: theatrical tasting menu

I’m going to France for my 40th birthday, starting off in Paris for a few days. Travelling with my husband, my best friend, and her husband.

There are so many options in Paris, I’m finding it tricky to narrow down choices.

I’m looking for a few recommendations:

  1. Fine dining for birthday dinner. Would want a tasting menu, ideally with the starting price 300€ pp or less. I love unexpected surprises and a meal that almost has a theatric feel to it. I’d like to atmosphere to be fun and lighthearted - nothing quiet and restrained. Not fully vegetarian (although our group isn’t opposed to a vegetarian or vegan menu other times).

  2. Somewhere to get a nice dinner that is near Crazy Horse. Something à la carte would be better for time management purposes. Excellent cocktails are a must.

  3. Brunch. We won’t be there on a Sunday. It would be ideal if they offer brunch on weekdays. A reasonably priced (under €175 pp) lunchtime tasting menu could be another option, especially if they might be likely to include any classic brunch type foods.

Cassis: group tours vs private guide?

Travelling to France this August as a group of 4 adults (two couples). We are spending a few days in Cassis and are planning to leave a day for a wine tour.

We all enjoy wine but I don’t think our knowledge is at the level of many in this sub. Ideally, we’d get to include white, rosé, red, and sparkling throughout the day (but red in a minority). I love minerality in wines, something crisp and not too sweet (clearly, I’m the one who leans away from reds).

We will not have a vehicle, so we are debating between looking into a smallish group tour vs hiring a private guide to take us around. It would be on a weekday (very likely a Monday).

Would love to hear any recommendations!

Diving in Cassis?

Will be in Cassis for a few days at the end of August. My husband and I dive, but the other couple we are travelling with do not. We want to do a one tank dive because we don’t want to miss the opportunity to dive in such a beautiful place. Would love recommendations of dive shops!
We speak some French but are quite rusty… and haven’t spoken French when it comes to diving lingo. Happy to make an effort though!
