How’s the snow?

I’m currently planning on coming down to Ushuaia from July 8-18th.m and looking to do some skiing. I know there is Cerro Castor as a ski area with lifts, which I will hit up, but I’m also interested in ski touring the local glaciers. How is the snow currently? Is there enough to ski in the high country? I see there is a lot of precipitation in the forecast but it’s a lot of rain in town. I’m assuming it gets cold enough to snow at higher elevations. Any info is much appreciated. Thank you!

Ski touring Mid July

Hello everyone,

I am starting to put together a 7-day trip to el chalten area for some remote ski touring. I’m well experienced with over 20 years of ski touring all over. The Andes, the Alps, Rockies, Japan, Turkey. I know the mountains are obviously dangerous and unpredictable, but for those that have gone before, is a guide strongly recommended. I’ve actually never used a guide and toured all over the world so it’s just a different feeling for me. I’ve read about some of the recommended areas for the best skiing. Cerro Vespignani, De los tres glacier, Cerro madsen, etc…

Any recommendations on skiing these areas and how to access them? Also, any good names of some local guides if that is recommended?

Thanks A lot and here’s to some good snow this year!!

Ski Touring El Calafate/El Chalten

I’m looking for some info on ski touring in this area in July. Can’t seem to find much info. I know it’s not as popular as probably Bariloche or Ushuaia but it’s so beautiful and far off the beaten path. Hence why I want to do it. Anyone have any info?

Thanks!
