I know other branches have intramurals and all army/ Air Force teams . I’m wondering if coast guard has the same thing given its small size .

I like to play sports for my hobbies but don’t know if coast guard has that kind of culture or time .

I know you guys are constantly doing the mission which is cool but sport events with your fellow members would be cool too.

Edit : I’m not high level at any sport. I just play multiple for fun and I enjoy playing with people I work with .

Just looking for an IT CWO to pick their brain because I am trying to choose between 2 career paths. Preferably someone who works along side with a C5I officer since that is another path I am considering.

In the army and they care a lot . I was wondering how the coast guard looks at it? Is it good for promotion or respect from leaders ? Or is just more like , as long as you pass .. no one really cares what you scored .

I was looking on the coastguard website and saw DCO and DCE. I dug a bit more and kind of got confused. I saw Cyber Officer on the website and saw C5I on other sources. Are they interchangeable ? I plan on applying to become a coast guard officer with an IT degree , Security + with a TS/SCI and basic IT experience. However I see that Cyber Officers require cyber experience. It looks like maybe I qualify for both but I am not too sure. What are the differences and which one would you say I align with more? Or should I just apply for both

From what I see . They’re only in DC, Maryland and California. Seems like such a small list. Are they able to Goto sectors or air stations as well?

I joined at 18 and I’m 25 now . Does anyone feel like the best time of their lives are being wasted or am I just having FOMO

I am an active duty 25B E5 thinking about getting out. I have a bachelor’s in IT, Sec+, and a TS/SCI, so defense contracting is the main option I am looking at.

For those who went from active duty to contracting, how big was the real pay jump once you factored in losing BAH, BAS, Tricare, and all the other military benefits? Did contracting still end up being a major increase, or did the numbers end up closer than expected?

Did any of you stay Reserve to help offset the difference? Was that worth it?

I am also wondering if staying in is actually the better financial move long term once everything is added up.

I like the people, but I am tired of field time, deployments, and the training cycle. I want to make the smartest financial decision.

What should I be considering before making the jump?
Anything you wish you knew beforehand?

I’m on year 7 and with my ETS next year . My army career so far hasn’t been so bad . Been stationed at Kuwait> Japan > Germany. My question is it only downhill from here ? I am currently an E5 IT specialist . I just feel like there’s more money to be made . I have a degree , security +, and ts sci . I just don’t want to re enlist if it’s only downhill from here especially with me having the credentials to do something else .

I saw that one of the Coast Guard’s missions is humanitarian work, and that’s something I really want to do. I’m especially interested in helping during hurricanes and natural disasters. I was inspired by that Texas rescue swimmer who saved a bunch of lives .

Is that actually part of the Coast Guard’s jurisdiction, or is that more of a National Guard thing?

If the Coast Guard does handle disaster relief, is there an officer track that focuses on that kind of mission?

Ideally, I’d love to make humanitarian/disaster response my full career. Is that realistic in the Coast Guard, or should I be looking at a different branch or agency?

I imagine you guys are just in a fenced compound at a pier or something . How does that work for chow halls or gyms or any other base amenities ? Do you guys have to come out of pocket for things the DOD get for free ?

Me and my homie are looking for somewhere to go this summer . Hoping to a younger crowd and a bit of partying and meeting people . Prefer outdoor activities , day drinking and stuff . More than just nightclubs . Not really into history or museums but love engaging activities .

When I get out the army , I will be a little after my 8 year mark. However I plan on going straight into another military branch . Will I be able to claim BRS right after I enlist into the new branch ?

I’m thinking about going army to USCG so which means I would have to extend my DEROS (jan2027)to my ETS (aug2027). Which means illl go straight from Army to coast guard. Am I still able to do a skillbridge or is skillbridge for AD to civilian only ?
