Why did my container chili pepper get fungal wilt?
One branch of my thai chili pepper plant became wilted almost overnight, and upon closer inspection, the stem of that section turned brown, which I'm guessing means fungal wilt. But how did a container plant get fungal wilt? It's part of my balcony garden, which is a few stories above ground level, so it wouldn't have come in contact with any other soil. I transplanted the pepper back in May using store bought soil, and haven't introduced any new soil since then. If the fungus originated from the bagged soil, why did the plant only get sick now? I'm fairly new to gardening, and I have a few other chili pepper plants in other containers that I don't want to lose!
