AMEX asks for a physical address but accepts proof for other address?
I applied for an US AMEX. I have an ITIN, a US phone number and a forwarding US address which is not flagged as CMRA or Commercial. My phone number is tied to that address. My bank account is with Schwab International. I live outside of the US.
I tried to apply via Global Transfer for my first AMEX as I have a standing relationship with AMEX in Germany.
AMEX now asked for further information:
- proof of address -> I can provide this
- proof of ITIN -> I can provide this
Then, AMEX says that my address is not physical and can’t be used for opening the account. I called the team and asked what I can do now.
This is where it got confusing now: the representative said that I have to provide a physical address for the file but I can still prove my residence with a phone bill that is tied to my current address in the application (which they flagged).
Is this really possible? I may be able to get a real residential address for the application but I would like to keep using my forwarding mail address for all correspondence.
I didn’t provide any documents to AMEX yet and wanted to ask for your advice on how to proceed here. Thank you!
