Buy tickets now or last minute for 10/4?

hi! my husband is a lifelong bears fan but has never been to soldier field. Since they might be moving he wants to go to a game this year. A quick search indicates that if we wait until the day before to buy tickets we’re most likely to get the most affordable deal. right now, I see tickets in the 300 section for $234.

if that’s a good deal, I’m willing to pay it to be sure we have tickets in hand before we travel. BUT it it’s a game that is expected to have much cheaper tickets the day before then I’d much prefer to wait since we already have to spend on flights and a hotel.

Thanks for any advice and input! I would never risk it on a playoff game but I’m thinking it’s early enough in the season that we’d probably be okay.

Hot Take: Shows Should Be Made by People Who Love the Show

I'm reaching out because the geek community is calling for your aid. Some of you may know, but many of you may not, that a continuation of the Stargate franchise was announced by Amazon MGM Studios in November. This was incredibly exciting because they brought back original showrunners and they announced in on a popular Stargate podcast. This was clearly a show that was loved by the people involved, that respected the fans who have kept it alive for nearly thirty years.

Friends, may we all have our franchises loved so deeply by those who purchase the rights, amirite?

Fast forward to shakeups in Amazon MGM leadership, and the show, 20 weeks into production, was cancelled. This was reportedly due to the fact that existing fans may have liked it too much and it wouldn't have had broader appeal. This has been pushed back on by producers and actors who swear that a tightrope was being walked of appealing to new fans who have never seen an episode, while honoring the legacy of 17 seasons of lore that have come before.

Who do I trust? The producers who love the show or the studio heads? That's an easy one.

What we need to demonstrate next is that there is appeal for the Stargate franchise and that we do want Martin Gero to #BuildtheGate.

I'm hoping that, even if you're not a Stargate fan (yet) you want to send the message that beloved franchises should be run by people who love them as much as the fans do, and by people who respect the fans who care so deeply about the core material.

Will you tell others about this? You can find a whole list of things to do here: 10 Things YOU Can Do To #SaveStargate : r/Stargate

This is relevant to all of us who want and love good television; we want excellent storytelling, good world building, and maybe even a little optimism in these times. I'm a firm believer that if you make something *good* it will have appeal, but if you make something to have appeal, it will rarely be good. This isn't just about scifi, and it's not just about Stargate; it's about how studios view their IP, and their fans. If you want shows made by people who actually *like* what they are working on, then join us in asking Amazon MGM+ to change their mind.

Thank you!

10 Things YOU Can Do To #SaveStargate

So, what can we do to #SaveStargate? Well, we have a lot of options, actually. Some require ten seconds of your time. Some are a little more involved. All of them can make a difference. We want to be clear that we want the MARTIN GERO Stargate. The news around this decision indicates that they may want to continue the IP but bring in "fresh eyes" to appeal to a broader audience. Apparently Gero's version was too much for the fans. Considering the fans have kept this community thriving for almost thirty years, I'd say appealing to that base is a pretty smart way to go. We want the Gero vision that honors the legacy of Stargate. We want the Gero version that cares about the fans. We want the Gero version that keeps the heart of what makes Stargate so special after all these years.

  1. Please sign and share this petition: https://www.change.org/p/save-the-new-stargate-series-let-martin-gero-build-the-future-of-the-franchise

There are a few petitions floating around, but this is the one that has gained the most traction and I think it is important that we consolidate our efforts to be as impactful as possible.

  1. Reach out to support on prime and ask for a call back. Speak to a representative directly and let them know how you feel. BE RESPECTFUL. The person you are speaking with has no control over this- don't give them a bad day just because you're frustrated. You can also use the chat function, but you will get an AI response. If you do use the chat, continue talking until they specify which department they are forwarding your comments to.

  2. If you have Prime, cancel it, and, again, contact support so they know *why* you cancelled.

  3. Call the studio (this suggestion comes directly from Michael Shanks). From Grok: (888) 364-9521 — This is the most commonly listed toll-free number for MGM Studios (now Amazon MGM Studios). It's referenced on their official site for privacy-related requests and appears in business directories. Culver Studios facility (main production location): (310) 202-1234 — For studio/office or production-related matters at 9336 W Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA

Ask for Blair Fetters office. Tell them why. RESPECTFULLY. We want them to listen to us; would you listen to someone who called you up and called you names? I wouldn't. Don't be that guy.

  1. Write and send a letter in the mail.

Amazon MGM Studios

9336 W Washington Blvd

Culver City, CA 90232

  1. Use social media to tag Amazon MGM Studios and Amazon. Let them know RESPECTFULLY that you what the Gero-led project to continue.

6a. Use social media to comment on anything Amazon MGM or Amazon posts. Let them know you're not interested in any posts that aren't about a reversal of their decision on Stargate.

  1. Write and send an email. This is the best contact I can find, but, in conjunction with these other activities, it can't hurt. amazonstudioscontactus@amazon.com

  2. Mail a physical tissue box to the studio with "Thanks Send More" written on it. Also include a respectful note that you want the Gero-led Stargate project.

  3. Support this campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/f/savestargate-dont-close-the-gate

  4. And finally, share these ideas. Anywhere online you have Stargate community, spread the word. This isn't over yet. A great place to start is http://savethegate.com

Where is the fandom now?

When I was first involved in Stargate fandom, around 2000, I was an active member of the samandjack yahoo group, Gateworld, and other fan sites. The samandjack fanfic awards were a big deal! There were places to post fanfic/video challenges and prompts, etc.

Where are those places now? Is it here? facebook? another forum I don't know about?
I've just started getting back involved in writing fanfiction and I'm looking for community beyond just posting.

my husband is a lifelong Mets fan and I’d like to get him tickets as a surprise for his birthday.

Tickets are way more expensive on the retro jersey day 7/12 but I know he’d love the jersey. BUT question for fans: is it more fun to get a jersey at the game or to see big rivals? wondering if I should pick tickets for when they face the Braves or Philly. (Google tells me those are the top rivals, lol) bonus that those days are cheaper.

I appreciate any insight! we rarely get to games and haven’t been to one since 2019 so I really want it to be a special day for him.
