Re. Revenge fakes

Has anyone who commented on the two revenge fakes posts been contacted by new accounts since they were taken down? A 13-day-old burner account (u/Fun-Antelope2437) with 1 karma just tracked down two of my posts to comment "hoe". Wondering if anyone else is being targetted by them or similar alts.

Who's dog is it?

Some details in this story have been changed to protect everyone's anonymity, but the core ethical dilemma remains exactly the same.

My friend found out about a dog that was badly injured. He needed surgery, but had a high chance of a full recovery. However, he would almost certainly lose one eye. The owners decided to have him put down anyway because euthanasia was cheaper than the surgery.

My friend had some spare cash and contacted the family to offer to cover the medical costs to save him. They were incredibly quick to accept and immediately asked her to transfer the money to their account.

Something felt off about how eager they were, so before hitting send, my friend bypassed them and contacted the vet clinic directly. It turned out her gut feeling was right. Despite accepting her financial help under the guise of paying for the surgery, the family had still instructed the vet to put the dog down. Their reasoning? They told the vet they would much rather have a new pure breed dog than a disabled batar.

My friend was absolutely disgusted. She blocked the family, went straight to the vet, and paid the clinic directly for the life-saving surgery.

My question is: who's dog is it now? The dog was not registered. I already know the legally correct answer to that question but I was told that neither my friend nor I understand the Mauritian context.

So, fellow Mauritians, whose dog is it now according to you?

tigajack summaries: bug, or observer bias?

I've been looking at the thread summaries that tigajack-modbot generates, and I may have noticed a logic flaw in how it handles things. This logic flaw usually works in my favour, so I'm a bit undecided about pointing it out (officially) to the mods. It could also just be an observer bias thing, which is why I'm checking with the community.

My question is: Do you think the summaries are a fair representation of the discussion in the thread? Are we really as reasonable as it makes us sound?

If everyone's happy with it then there’s really no need to make any changes. FWIW, I think it's a great addition to this sub, especially for people who jump in once the discussion is already in full swing!

Incident at Grand-Bassin: Violent Assault or religious defense?

I’m trying to get to the bottom of what happened at Grand Bassin. I’ve seen 2 completely different narratives, and I’m curious if anyone can verify the details.

Version #1: The News Report (Assault)

According to Défi Media, a group of Italian tourists was targeted while relaxing near a parking lot. The confrontation began when an individual aggressively challenged them over the food they were consuming. The situation turned violent when a second person intervened.

A 53-year-old Italian man was reportedly punched in the face, dragged across the ground, and repeatedly kicked. During the attack, his glasses and mobile phone, valued at approximately €1300, were snatched and thrown into the bushes. The police are currently investigating and reviewing Safe City footage to identify the suspects.

Version #2: Hindu spokesperson's version (as told by my neighbour)

On the other hand, some local accounts (and a spokesperson for a Hindu group) are framing this as a "righteous defense" of the site. They claim the tourists "openly disrespected" the sanctity of Grand Bassin by eating meat. They argue the devotees were only "peacefully educating" the tourists before acting in self-defense, concluding that protecting the site's sanctity should never be treated as a crime.

Can anyone confirm if these two stories are definitely about the same group? Because if the "sanctity" argument is being used to justify bashing a 53-year-old man and trashing his belongings, that is absolutely wild!

Edit :There's now a formal letter from the Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temples Federation (MSDTF). The contrast between what they’ve addressed and what actually happened is disturbing. The letter focuses entirely on the behaviour of tourists and the need for stricter regulations. Despite being dated after the reported physical altercation, the letter makes no mention of the violence, the assault on the Italian tourist, or the actions of the "devotees" involved.

Thread 1: The influencer selling out

There is a post about a local influencer monetising her platform through adult content, and the comment section is a total dumpster fire. It’s a masterclass in sanctimony, filled with lectures about lost dignity and accusations of her leading men and children astray. What’s wild is how the moral burden is placed entirely on her shoulders, while the men who create the demand and drive the market get a total pass.

Thread 2: Human trafficking as tea.

Then, we have a thread about human trafficking, a literal human rights atrocity happening in our backyard. Yet, instead of the same moral outrage, the tone is of morbid curiosity. Human trafficking is being treated like a gossip session where the OP is inviting everyone to spill the worst stories they’ve heard.

This isn't about blaming individual Ops or the commenters. I believe these threads are a mirror of the broader Mauritian society. My question is: why we, as Mauritians, are prompt to condemn women who choose to get paid for the objectification of their body while staying silent on the men who feel entitled to take for free and often by force?

If yes, is this something you want or do you feel pressured into it? Do you have a list of desirable qualities for a partner or is it more a case of when the time is right, you'll marry the first suitable person that comes along?

If no, how do you see your future?

Edit :.
My inbox has been flooded with DMs from concerned souls asking if I am being forced into an unwanted marriage. I’ve also had strangers urging me to "run for the hills" or to "get out while I still can". I’m quite touched by the collective rescue mission.

This topic came about because I recently turned 30 and am being hounded by my aunts and their friends to get married. Apparently, they have a long list of potential candidates😩

Reading all your sensible comments has cheered me up. Thank you🙂
