Looking for Yu-Gi-Oh cards in Mauritius

Hello,

I’m looking to buy some Yu-Gi-Oh cards in Mauritius and was wondering if anyone knows of a shop or a specific location that still sells them.

I know about Adilsons, but their prices are a bit expensive for what we’re looking for. A few friends from work and I just want to get some cards and have a couple of fun duels like we used to when we were kids 😂

We already have quite of genuine Konami cards, but we’re looking for more cards/decks to play with.

We’ve checked a few toy shops where Yu-Gi-Oh cards used to be sold, but they don't seem to have them anymore.

We don't mind if the cards are fake/unofficial, as this is just for casual games. We’re mainly looking for somewhere affordable.

If you know a shop, bazaar, toy store, gaming store, or even someone selling Yu-Gi-Oh cards, please let me know the location/name.

Thanks!

A statistician wearing blue clothes visits frequently.

It seems like they come about 2 or 3 times a year.

They visited again today and collected the names, contact information, and number of residents in this house before leaving.

But I'm curious, does the government collect statistics this frequently?

Family problem. 19M

I’m 19M, and I honestly don’t know what to do with everything I’ve been finding out about my parents and their marriage.

My mother married my father when she was 18 and he was nearly 40. I always assumed their marriage was arranged, or at least something where both families had a major role. Recently, I found out from my aunt that apparently it wasn’t. From what I’ve learned, my mother was the one pursuing my father because he was wealthy.

Now they’re around 40 and 60 respectively, and my mother seems absolutely miserable with him.

The thing is, my father has health problems. He’s getting older, and obviously that comes with complications. But instead of having some compassion for him, my mother constantly complains about his health, about what he can’t do anymore, and about how he’s “not good enough.” It feels like she’s constantly looking at what she could have instead of appreciating what she has & honestly, my mother has always seemed extremely money-minded to me.

When we were on holiday in Malaysia a few months back, she was already planning the next holiday before the current one was over. It’s never enough.

What really pushed me over the edge was finding out that she took money from my university fund to buy herself a sari which cost around Rs 16k. And when my father confronted her, her defense is that she took only 16k and that amount is not a big deal. That money was supposed to help with MY future. I’m struggling to understand how someone can justify taking money set aside for their child’s education to buy an outfit, she wore once.

And lately, I’ve noticed her flirting & be touchy with other men. At first i could not really tell because it was subtle but it gradually got so disrespectful & she does that in front of us. When i pointed it out, she just says she's a bubbly person with a bubbly personality in order to deviate the conversation. But few weeks ago, i caught her doing something far worse however i did not have the heart to tell anyone yet.

I know I’m only 19 and I don’t know everything that happens inside a marriage. Maybe there are things between my parents that I’m completely unaware of. Maybe my father has his own faults. I’m not pretending he’s perfect. But I’m angry because it feels like my mother chose my father when he was wealthy and could provide the lifestyle she wanted, and now that he’s older and dealing with health problems, suddenly he isn’t enough anymore. I’m also angry because her choices are starting to affect me directly, especially when she takes money from my education fund. I don’t know if I’m being unfair because I’m obviously seeing all of this from the perspective of their son. I just feel exhausted watching my mother constantly complain about my father while simultaneously wanting more money, more holidays, more things, and apparently more attention from other men. I definetely would not want to be in my dad's place. At this point, I honestly don’t know whether I’m angry at my mother, disappointed in her, worried about my father, or all three.

Am I wrong for feeling this way & what can i do?

Teachers quitting their job in Mauritius

I'm interested to know if there's a lot of teachers in Mauritius who are leaving this profession. For those who want to leave or that have already left their job, what makes/made you want to quit?

What challenges teachers are facing right now in 2026 and what makes them stay in the profession?

Starting to plan a hindu wedding planning - looking for recs

Hi all!

My partner and I are beginning to plan our destination wedding in Mauritius. We are both Hindu from the US and plan to do a 3-4 day ceremony. Do you all have any recommendations for wedding planners or hotels to check out? Budget wise we are flexible, but we want to get a sense on what it will cost.

We are interested in staying on the western side, but are open to suggestions. We are also planning to visit for 3 days in end of November, so any recs for things to check then!

Would also love to hear about your experiences at Hindu weddings in Mauritius as locals or tourists :)

Did you know François Leguat was basically our Rodriguan Robinson Crusoe?

Many people in Mauritius have heard the name François Leguat, especially because of the famous tortoise reserve in Rodrigues. But how many of us actually know who he was?

François Leguat was basically our Rodriguan Robinson Crusoe. Except his story was real, he was not alone, and his book was published in 1708, eleven years before Daniel Defoe published Robinson Crusoe.

Leguat was a French Huguenot who fled religious persecution under Louis XIV. In 1690, he joined an expedition which planned to establish a Protestant colony on Bourbon, today Réunion. The proposed colony was supposed to be called “Eden”.

When they reached the Mascarenes, however, Bourbon was still occupied by the French. The captain did not want a confrontation, so he took them to the uninhabited island of Rodrigues instead.

On 16 May 1691, Leguat and seven other men were left there.

They were not exactly shipwreck survivors. They had volunteered to become colonists, although it is unclear whether they fully understood that their destination had been changed from Bourbon to Rodrigues.

The Rodrigues they encountered was completely different from the island we know today.

It still had extensive native vegetation, freshwater and enormous numbers of giant tortoises. Leguat described tortoises gathering in herds of thousands and showing almost no fear of humans.

There were also many birds that are now extinct, including the Rodrigues solitaire, a large flightless relative of the Mauritian dodo. Leguat described how these birds formed pairs, raised a single chick and used hard stones from their stomachs which the settlers found useful for sharpening knives.

The men built a small village of huts. The largest hut became a sort of town hall where they met, prayed and discussed how to organise their little community.

Their attempts at European-style farming mostly failed, but food was not a major problem. They survived on fish, shellfish, fruit, birds and tortoises.

In many ways, Rodrigues was probably the easiest part of their journey.

Their real problem was isolation. No other settlers arrived, no letters came from Europe and there were no women on the island. Leguat, who was already in his fifties, apparently would have preferred to remain. His younger companions eventually insisted that they leave.

They constructed a wooden boat using the limited tools and materials available to them. Their first attempt ended when the boat struck the reef. They managed to return to land, but one of the men died shortly afterwards.

On 21 May 1693, the seven survivors tried again.

They sailed approximately 560 kilometres across the open ocean in their homemade boat, with very limited navigational equipment. After about a week, they reached Mauritius.

They probably thought the worst was over.

Mauritius was then a small Dutch colony governed by Roelof Diodati. At first, the men were welcomed. However, they had brought a large piece of ambergris from Rodrigues. Ambergris was extremely valuable at the time because it was used in perfume.

Leguat later accused Diodati of trying to take it from them. Dutch records describe the dispute differently. The authorities also discovered that some of the men were considering taking a boat and escaping to Bourbon.

This was happening during the Nine Years’ War, when France and the Netherlands were enemies. Although the men were Protestant refugees who had fled France, the Dutch still regarded them as French nationals moving between strategically important colonies.

Five of them were arrested in January 1694.

They were eventually transferred to a small, exposed islet near Grand Port. Mauritian sources usually identify it as Île aux Fouquets, although some historians believe the actual “prison rock” may have been neighbouring Îlot Vacoas.

Unlike Rodrigues, the islet offered very little food, vegetation or protection. They remained there for roughly two years, suffering from illness, poor supplies and tropical weather.

One of them, Jean Testard, attempted to escape using a crude raft made from grass and other available materials. He disappeared. He may have reached the Mauritian mainland and died in the forest, but nobody knows exactly what happened to him.

In September 1696, the surviving prisoners were transported to Batavia, today Jakarta, where the Dutch East India Company had its Asian headquarters.

After examining their case, the authorities found them innocent.

Leguat and two companions finally reached Europe in June 1698.

He published his account ten years later, in 1708.

Records found in the Dutch East India Company archives confirmed many of the events. Fossils discovered on Rodrigues also confirmed the existence of animals that Leguat had described, including the strange solitaire.

His book is not completely reliable. Some sections may have been edited or expanded by another Huguenot writer, and Leguat expressed several prejudices typical of European writers of that period. However, the main journey, the settlement on Rodrigues and the imprisonment in Mauritius really happened.

Today, the François Leguat Reserve in Rodrigues is attempting to recreate part of the ecosystem he witnessed, using native vegetation and introduced giant tortoises to replace the ecological role of the extinct Rodriguan species.

So the next time you hear the name François Leguat or visit the tortoise reserve, remember that it is named after one of the first recorded inhabitants of Rodrigues, a religious refugee, explorer, amateur naturalist, boatbuilder and survivor of one of the strangest adventures in Mauritian history.

MRA Custom

Hello. I bought some goods online and the total was $200. Even on the DHL papers, the total was $200. However, when I paid tax, I paid $60. I didn't pay attention until now that the declared value on the MRA custom papers was $400. They faked the price to obtain higher taxes. How do I get my money back?

The first million

How old were you when you made your first million, and what did you do with it?

Did it genuinely feel significant, or is a million in Mauritius less impressive once you account for the actual economic context?

Does anyone else feel like having a million or two in your late twenties is basically peanuts now?

MCB and Crypto currency

Wanted to know if anyone had had issues with MCB regarding crypto usd into their bank account? (Coinbase,Binance or OKX)

I saw on another old reddit post where some people got their account blocked when they mentioned crypto platforms to MCB upon verification of their transaction.

Is it still the case or can we trade freely using our MCB accounts?

To those who have been to psychologists in Mauritius, how have your experience been?

Like were the psychologists professionals or you had to go to several before finding your that 1 who would understand and guide you through it?

Also, I have a parent who insists upon "accompanying" me to a psychiatrist/psychologist as "one should not go alone to the doctor". (Edit: I'm an adult)
