imm trying to improve my email security and have been looking to switch from gmail due to all the unnecessary ai being forcefully added

I've heard good things about proton so I'm looking to replace gmail with that.

I have a confusion regarding emails and recovery emails though: as per advice I've read online it's best to use an email which is not the same as your other ones as a recovery email (Eg if all my emails are yahoo then my recovery email should be something other than yahoo). in that case, if I'm changing my other email id's to proton, would it be unproductive if I made a gmail ID as the recovery email? I don't want to use yahoo but idk about google either since the point of me doing this is to move away from google.

also, is this the correct approach? to have one email id solely as a recovery email and not use it for anything else, and connect all my other emails to that one.

and I keep seeing people talk about aliases, which I have no idea about.

I'm sorry if these are very basic questions, but I'd appreciate if someone can explain everything
