Peter Chan’s father is an alum at the university I work for and he stopped by for a campus tour.

I happened to be out on vacation, but my colleagues reached out to me to let me know he was coming. They all know me as “the guy that does bonsai”.

I asked them to tell him that his videos meant a lot to me when I started in bonsai and appreciate all the information he shares. He left me a signed copy of his book.

My Amur Maple starting to finally look like something

Bought this Amur on clearance a few years back. It’s been a journey trying to get branches where I wanted, but it’s finally starting to come along.

Found this in a creek in Wisconsin and was told it is a fire starter used by Native Americans. Is this correct?

Found this rock with a perfect hole/indentation SE Wisconsin wood. Any thoughts?

Just wondering if anyone thinks this may have been used for something in the past.

Another clearance find- Azalea Stewartstonian for $10.99

Never had an Azalea and don’t really have any flowering trees, so I grabbed it bc I wanted to play around with it. Trunk is okay, waiting for the back bud after the cut back.

Plan to cut back further in late winter.

Found this rock in my parent’s woods in Wisconsin. Do you think the hole was man made?

Just curious what people think? No idea what type of rock it is.

Found this boxwood in the clearance at big box store for $18.99

Photos in 3 stages- bought, trim, branch selection.

Plan to cut it back further, but trying not to go too hard on it.

Any branches still on that you’d take off?

Upsized my ficus “benjamina” into a larger trainer pot

I’ve had this tree for 4 years now. Bought it on discount at a nursery that was going out of business and came with bugs lol.

I lost the left trunk stem a couple years ago and slowly brining it back with the only branch that survived.

I just wish these back budded better like other ficus.

*photo was taken at dusk, so it has a weirdness to it.

Burning bush chop

I was under the impression that burning bushes don’t bud a second time in the grow year, but it is pushing new growth. Love the trunk. I plan to chop it back more in later winter.

Found this funky little juniper for $8.99

I always forget to take before photos. I plan to slip pot it up next spring. Already sprouting new growth. Fun, funky branches on it.
