Support group for people whose parents have been diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases?

Hi all - just received a bit of a gut punch that my dad was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia.

I dont know too much about it other than he’s been struggling to find the words to finish sentences, he’s been getting confused about things he normally is really good at, and has been forgetful. He doesn’t live in NYC but apparently my mom noticed it getting worse and took him in for testing and that was the diagnosis.

It sounds like there’s no cure and it’s basically a guarantee that in 5-15 years it will develop into full on dementia. Apparently it’s quite rare and it’s the same thing Bruce Willis was recently diagnosed with.

I feel like I’m handling it okay but I’m stressed about how it will affect him, my mom, and myself and not exactly sure what I should do.

I thought it might be helpful to talk with others who have experienced the same thing for support and advice.

Anyone know if such a thing exists? If not, maybe I’ll just inquire if anybody else is experiencing something similar and might be interested in meeting with a group at fort Greene Park.

Thanks!
