I am looking to try different flavours of homemade garam masala. Been using the same recipe from years and want to try different variations.
Please share your tried and tested ones.
Looking for feedback on Waterman Pens that are on insane discount on Flipkart.
Why such great discounts on these pens: clearance stock? Do they have any defects? Are they suitable for gifting (reason for this post)?
Pls share your thoughts.
Edit: thanks for the reassuring replies. Placed an order 🤞🏻

I am a huge fan of piston and vac filling mechanisms. Saw this affordable vac filler on Amazon and couldn't pass up the opportunity to try it. Seller is calling it Venti.
First impressions: nice looking pen. A bit dusty, nothing a good rinse can't fix. Comfortable to hold when the cap isn't posted. Posting the cap threw it off balance.
Filled it up with Pilot blue and it guzzled up a good amount. It will take me A VERY LONG TIME to use it up with it's F nib 🥲 Should have filled less than half.
Writes smoothly but has feedback on bad paper. On good paper, it just glides.
Overall a good buy.
Smallest handmade ebonite pen I came across. It is an eyedropper and takes about 3 drops of ink. Looks like it has a medium nib.
Size comparison with Lamy 2k. Looks so cute 🥰
It has its own quirks. The clip has sharp edges, the section fit is tight and takes some work to get it out, but I love this itty bitty pen.
Pen: Lamy Safari (M)
Ink: Bril Blue-Black
Pen boxes? Cases?
My collection has grown a lot during the past few months and i am looking for storage suggestions and where to get them. Need 20 pen storage atleast.
Got these Safari knockoffs from Amazon to test new inks. Also like the colours and matte finish.
Both of them came with EF nibs and converter is included which is very nice considering this set of two cost ₹199 including shipping.
Couldn't resist comparing them with Lamy Safari.
These pens write with slight feedback, maybe because EF nibs. They are dry writers, wet ink will be more suitable for their use. They dry out quickly (biggest problem), within 1-2 days.
Lamy's nib is M and smooth writer. Doesn't dry out even if we don't write with it for a few weeks.
I tried to directly swap out the nibs between both. But not easy to pull out the nibs on these. Will try again over the weekend.
Added a writing sample of both with Pelikan Blue ink.
Colours are bright and vibrant. Great for sketching and highlighting. Smooth writers with ink flow on the heavier side.
I got this set to use for journaling but it bleeds through. Not suitable for cheap paper. Good on watercolor paper.
They dry very quickly. Fairly waterproof. Only 1-2 colours smudged after water test.
The ink flow was not uniform across different colours. Turquoise and green are the driest and still good to write with.
Pls suggest a fountain pen with stub nib upto 1.3mm width for journaling. It will mostly be used as a desk pen.
Budget: 1k, can stretch upto 1.5
Filling mechanism: preferably cartridge/converter
Edit: considering fude nibs too
Daytone has three series of inks for fountain pens. Premium, Extra fine and Regular.
Posting swatches of all inks from Extra fine and Regular. Swatched on Classmate Pulse notebook with a dip pen.
Last two pics are swatches of both series with similar shades grouped together. They are 2+ months old. No noticeable fading.
They are well behaved inks with no feathering even on cheap paper. Ghosting and bleeding varies from paper to paper.
Shades like magenta didn't stain the pen which is a pleasant surprise. Bril Laurel Rose stained my glass dip pen to its soul. No amount of washing is getting that stain off.
Overall good inks for every day writing. Love the shade range and given how affordable they are, worth a try.
Nib is super smooth and consistent till the end. Ink is dark and flows well. Pen doesn't skip even when writing very fast. Flow is good but feels too much on bad paper.
These pens don't dry up even after days of not using them. Reliable to just pick up and write. No skipping even when we write fast.
Ink is water resistant but not waterproof as shown. Not refillable as per the description but will try to fill with fountain pen ink once the pen is empty. Overall, worth the price.
Looks like a rebranded pen coz many similar pens available online.
Swatched 7 shades of Bril Inks with a glass dip pen on Classmate notebook.
Some observations:
- They have decent saturation. Happy with the shades except Red that looks like deep orange.
- Green feathers a bit or could have been the paper
- Laurel Rose stains terribly. DO NOT USE IT IN DEMONSTRATORS, unless you want them in that colour
- they aren't waterproof
- glass bottles might leak. Need to store them carefully.
Ordered these from Bril India site. Also ordered the demonstrator RFP6. Green pen (RFP2) is a freebie.
Packing is very good. They practically mummified the ink bottles (pic attached). Leaks are negligible. Shipping cost is reasonable too.
If anyone wants swatches, will be happy to swatch and share.
Wancai Minis are one of top favs in my collection and my EDC. Currently have 3 of them but Starry Purple colour seemed elusive. Apparently limited edition colour that was released a few years ago 😕
Recently there was a discussion about Wancai Mini and when looking up some info, there it was listed on Amazon. Immediately placed order and received in 2 days.
Want to ink it up with a similar colour ink.
