Pen starts fading/skipping after 1500 words during fast answer writing. Need ballpoint recommendations.

Hey everyone,

I am preparing for the upcoming Mains exam, the commission has decided to only allow ball point pen and now I am running into a highly frustrating issue with my ball point pens during high-speed, long-duration practice sessions.

My ball pen writes beautifully and "like butter" for the first 500–1500 words, but then it completely starts to fade, lose its dark contrast, and skip—especially when drawing fast straight lines.

I recently switched from energel to different ball point pens like Cello Butterflow Simply, unomax 3x, writo meter, montex mega, and a few other ball point pens, but the fade still creeps back after a few pages of rapid writing.

What I need help with:

The fade after writing just 2 pages

  1. Has anyone else who writes at a lower angle faced this sudden ink-choking/fading issue during 3-hour mock tests? How did you fix your technique without ruining your writing speed?

  2. Are there any specific ball point pens that are structurally built to handle low angles and fast cursive loops without fading?

Thanks in advance for the help!

The biggest pen in my collection. Deccan Pen Store Advocate (Hyd)

The sheer size of the pen and nib is just humongous, maybe it’s the same size as Kanwrite Mammoth. But unlike Kanwrite mammoth, This cost me just 2300/- which is very reasonable for a pen of this size and quality.

Purchased it from Deccan Pen Store in Hyderabad. They make hand made pens as well as they sell some high end premium pens as well along with some Chinese made pens (Ball, Roller and Fountain)

DIY ink storage

I recently shifted to Mumbai, one of the most humid places in India. Living in Central India since the last couple of years, where relative humidity barely crossed 30%, I stored my inks in cardboard boxes lined with thermocol.

Since it started raining cats and dogs here and the humidity has spiked up to 96%, I started reading up about all the problems that it might cause to my inks, especially what people call SITB (Slime in the Bottle). I hate wastage and didn't want to see some of my precious inks turn putrid and unusable.

I am a DIY person and so, I did some reading and came up with a solution of sorts...

I went to the local mart and got home some dessicant, a moderately airtight container, took aluminium foil from the kitchen and used up some old foam sheet lying at home and improvised a bit and made this makeshift safety nest for my inks. It's not perfect, but atleast it'll be better than nothing... Hope it works 🙏🤞🙏🤞

My First 146 Burgundy EF

Last year August I found my passion for fountain pens again. ‘Again’ because I used to collect fountain pens in my school days.

Since last one year, got many fountain pens mainly from Japanese holy trinity - Sailor, Pilot and Platinum - as I like finer line width.

Montblanc was still a dream to me, kind of distant and unobtainable… Today a dream came true!

Got my first Montblanc as 146 in Burgundy with EF nib. Yet to ink it but thinking of Diamine Oxblood.

Yes, dreams do come true!

Avoid BWI inks

!UPDATE: BWI responded and are sending my replacement ink. I'll be updating here on this post.

Just sharing my personal experience here. You may be luckier with your bottles.

This is their Midnight Fuel 2nd batch of the 80ml bottles. This clogged my Wancai minis (both of them. One where I had the ink only and one where I had modified by adding surfactant to the). Both the pens got slightly stained. I did succeed in removing it though with earbuds and dettol handwash after multiple rounds of washing.

Clogged to (certain extent) my Click Orion too. Didn't want to try it with my Parker at all.

I was promised a replacement, but well, I've been waiting for a month and I've lost hope.

So, BWI, interesting colours but thank you, I'll be staying away. May you and your members of the Inklab (your loyalists) be happy with your inks forever.

WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?...

  1. Uniball Vision Elite, a rollerball with smoothness accuracy and leak-proof during flights.

  2. V7 rt, a rollerball with a rubberised grip that feels like silk and an ink that never fails to impress me personally.

  3. ZOOX H7, a rollerball too with a refill that itself is a revolution to the rollerball world; it has a miniature ink filter inside the refill itself, revealIng a pinnacle of pen tech no other pen has ever achieved.

My latest haul from sally (esybuypen)

Hello everyone. Received these 5 pens from Sally yesterday (Image 1).

These 5 pens cost me around ₹12,500 ($127) including shipping.

- Hongdian 1866 - $18.50

- Hongdian 517D - $15.50

- Hongdian A9 - $26

- Hongdian 1851 Golden Ice Flower - $18

- Majohn (Moonman) P140 - $45

- Shipping - $4

The rest of the pics are my small collection of Chinese pens and a few Kanwrite pens.

I got into fountain pens in Nov 2025. I always liked pens, but it all actually started with a Jinhao 35. Since then I've been slowly adding more whenever I could.

I also had a Kanwrite Emperor, Relik, PC and a maroon Jinhao 80, but I gave those away to my niece and a friend.

Out of all these, Asvine has been the biggest disappointment for me. Maybe I just got unlucky, but both the nibs I have feel too dry and have this weird feedback. My first expensive pen was an Asvine V200, and I barely use it because it skips. Maybe one day I'll try fixing the feed.

Other than that, Majohn and Hongdian are just amazing. Their nibs are crazy smooth and they are just a joy to write with.

My favorites so far are:

- Majohn V60 (If you use a triangular grip, trust me, this pen is made for you. You only understand after writing with it.)

- Majohn P140

- Jinhao 82 and Jinhao 88. For the price, these things are just unbelievable.

Kanwrites are okay-ish. The nibs are decent (still nowhere near as smooth as moonman or hongdian) for what they cost, but honestly the pens are not as beautiful as the Chinese ones.

Still don't own any Japanese or European pens except a Platinum Preppy, so maybe my opinion will change once I try those. (They offer little to zero increase in writing comfort in comparison to increase in price so no european or japanese pen for now).

What's your favorite Chinese fountain pen?

Review of Camlin Elegante

Hi, I am a teacher and an aspirant who primarily uses FPs. One month ago, I bought a Camlin Elegante (I already had one; I am a hoarder 😂 ).

So, the new one started out scratchy, but after two days of writing and emptying one converter full of ink, it felt smooth with a little bit of feedback.

My old Camlin (not that old, just 2.5 months old) was the same: scratchy at first, then smooth after some writing, but not as smooth as I expected. So, I swapped my 15-year-old Montex Retro pen nib into this Elegante and, oh my! It now writes like butter.

I used Camlin Red and Black inks, with Camlin Blue sometimes. No issues. It works smoothly. Both of them are my daily drivers.

I used Camlin trinity and Unomax ICON too for a long time . Will review it someday .

Finally got Krishna inks

I ordered the Lyrebird red and the FIG (Faux Iron Gall) ink. Free ink samples are also included.

I've inked my Wancai minis with these and by jove, they're a delight to write with.(writing samples in the next post).

The inks are wet, don't clog at all, smooth as hell! Everything you can ask for. And they didn't stain my demonstrators at all either! So, absolutely safe.

Little critiques about the packaging though. The 60ml FIG ink bottle leaked during transit... The cap in my case wasn't tight enough. But the pyramidal bottle (triangular?) is definitely lovely!

If you have any questions, feel free to drop them below. :)

[WTS] - A bunch of diaries/calendars

[WTS] - A bunch of diaries/calendars all are fresh, some may have a company logos

Many are a bunch of gifts/souvenirs and have simply been lying on a shelf unused and are a hassle to transport between cities, figured it would be better to just sell them,

Would prefer to sell in bulk but happy to sell as individual pieces as well; maximum that a single piece will cost is 200

Please feel free to DM for further information
