My summer financial aid experience
Just wanted to post my summer finaid situation for anybody who would like to see it as any information that may help or maybe get like any insight for anything.
This is my first term in any cc. Home college is wlac. But I am enrolled in (online) classes from different laccd schools.
I am enrolled in a summer course that started on June 29. Since I was seeing everyones posts earlier saying that they were getting summer pell "only when their class starts," I assumed the same thing might happen in my situation. I even see my Fall awards already on the sis, so I was just waiting on June 29 to come with no worries and thinking ok this is when my awards should show up. And so the day came and nope, no finaid update anywhere. I was thinking ok, maybe theyre working on a system update or something for the day and I'll just wait for the next day. Next day comes, still nothing. So I contacted finaid by email and asked all the questions I wanted, and they just replied that their records show that my pell award will be added to my awards information at the end of July. So i asked if they could clarify why my award was being processed more later than other summer students who got it when their classes started, because i have done literally everything with so much time in advance. They replied with because my class started on June 29. And that was it, no other info was given.
I am also enrolled in another course that starts on July 20. Which is at the end of July, like they said.
So this is what im connecting here: maybe finaid at the moment is updating awards for maybe 2 "official" batches? One just happened to be around when the 1st official week of classes started, which was June 15 and thats why they were telling everyone that they're getting finaid when their class started. And the next award update for others is going to be when the 2nd 5 week classes start, which is July 20.
Since my 1st class started later on June 29, they decided to lump up my award update with the 2nd batch? Im assuming, because thats just how finaid responded to me.
I'm not saying anything here as facts, its just been my experience and I just wanted to share it.
Now I can see how it can go smoother probably by enrolling in classes that start at the same time in the official beginning of the term or the official second half? Not in the middle or 2 weeks later like mine. And I'm not saying to not take classes that start a little later, I'm just saying it couldve gone smoother another way for me probably lol.
