AITA for telling my best friend she can’t move in with me after she broke up with her partner?

I’m ( 22F) and my best friend is 23F. We’ve been friends since high school and normally get along really well.

About two weeks ago, she broke up with her boyfriend after finding out he had been texting another girl. She called me crying and asked if she could stay at my apartment for “a few days” because she didn’t want to be around him.

I said yes, obviously.

The problem is that the few days turned into two weeks, and she has basically moved in.

She has brought clothes, makeup, and several boxes of her stuff. She also started using my room when I’m at college because she says the couch hurts her back. Last week she asked if I could give her a key because she “doesn’t want to feel like a guest.”

I told her I love her and want to help, but she needs to figure out another living arrangement.

She got really upset and said I was abandoning her when she was at her lowest. She reminded me that she let me stay at her place for almost a month when I was having problems with my family last year.

The difference, in my mind, is that when I stayed with her, I actually asked before extending my stay and paid for groceries. My friend hasn't offered anything, and when I mentioned splitting utilities, she said she shouldn't have to pay because she's temporarily here.

Yesterday she told our mutual friends that I kicked her out while she was going through the worst period of her life.

Now I'm wondering if I'm being unnecessarily cold. I genuinely feel bad for her, but I also don't want my apartment to become her new home without me agreeing to it.

AITA?
