Mahakaleshwar darshan experience: dos and donts

Details of Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar trip:

We booked a taxi (from Kapil Indore taxi) for 2 days total cost 5k + extra to driver basis my judgement - 500. Will I recommend: probably, yes.

Things to check: ask them to fill their tank beforehand. talk to driver beforehand and agree to drop you at the temple location.

We took VIP passes for both Jyotirlinga.

Mahakaleshwar costed 500 for 2, Omkareshwar costed 600 for 2.

Are they worth it: absolutely yes (std 5 to 6 hrs vs 45 mins; std can be within 20 30 mins if you visit early in the morning around 6am)

Mamaleshwar, Kal bhairav were also on list but we didn't have energy and grit to stand in normal queue for 2 to 3 hours again. We prayed from the premises. Harisiddhi shaki peeth was mesmerising during evening aarti.

Traffic: bonkers (took almost double time than what map originally showed)

Roads: pretty bad with few good patches.

Crowd: Wild

Temperature and weather: hot and humid till 2pm and rainy afterwards

We were dropped some kms away from tje temple and had to take rickshaw.

Rickshaw at Mahakaleshwar costed 0 but Harisiddhi darshan back and forth (from Mahakaleshwar gate 1) costed 150.

Rickshaw at Omkareshwar costed 30/pax on sharing basis and 150 for 2 while coming back (for 3kms).

Take printed pass with you. It's best.

Omkareshwar: you have to get a wrist band by visiting official counter and showing aadhar + pass (it's near Jhula pul and few other places).

Where to eat: we tried balraj and meghdoot. Both were bad. And they are considered to be the best. Fast was our only choice. I suggest you pack something or eat fast moving items. Don't eat roadside - water is pretty bad.

Radisson Blu Indore - shady practices stay away

My reco: HARD SKIP

just go for the marriott or wow crest instead

came down to indore for 5 nights to attend a friend's wedding and visit jyotirlinga. booked radisson blu based on a reco from friend. paid 10k per night. honestly, absolute mistake.

the hardware and rooms are spacious and clean, but the service and management are a total black hole. booked for double occupancy but they kept treating it like a single room—one towel, one dental kit, and just 2L of water for two people. escalated directly to the duty manager (dm) on day 1 itself, but the escalation hierarchy here is completely broken. absolutely nothing improved.

front desk is cold and transactional. default answer to everything is a rigid "not possible." the infrastructure is a joke too -hot water is barely lukewarm and the shower clogs instantly turning the floor into a literal puddle. The tv doesn't support OTT.

they also managed to send two completely different price quotes over email for the exact same car booking to mahakaleshwar. shady and unprofessional.

the food breakdown (the good, the bad, the ugly):

the food isn't just neutral or average - it is actively bad, barring a few specific items.

the must-tries (if you're stuck here): order from nihao. the thukpa is delicious, corn and cheese spring rolls are great, and the crispy water chestnuts are solid. from india oye, the ghuppa kebab is a must try.

the ugly: the dan dan bowl at dinner had an unbearable amount of lemongrass. breakfast was a disaster.

The Oberoi, Bangalore

Stayed here 1N for anniversary celebrations. Total bill - 50k (20k room rate)

Booking experience was disappointing. Had to go through a lot of hassle.

Early check in wasn't available though late check out was provided.

Checkin was smooth - directly in our room.

Throughout the stay, staff was amazing. Service was good. Room decor and cake were amazing.

We had booked spa for 90 minutes - it was interesting for me (they don't have couple spa). My wife didn't like it as much as what we experienced in ITC and Postcard.

FnB: lapis had to be the highlight for us (must try butter chicken, ottolenghi, kulcha, shakarkand kebab, nysore pizza).

Thai restaurant was extremely underwhelming - only enjoyed their thai chicken omelette. Ordered lobster and it was bad. Rin naam was a miss.

Didn't try Japanese restaurant.

Polo club was on point.

Vibe of the place was good.

Most memorable thing - room decor.

Worth the money - not sure (which means no).
