Reolink IP cameras now Control4 compatible

Reolink is a global security camera manufacturer focused on making capable video surveillance accessible and affordable for homes and businesses. Its products are widely available through major retailers, online marketplaces and Reolink's own stores across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, making systems easy to purchase, expand and replace.

The Chowmain Reolink driver package supports Ethernet cameras, USB Wi-Fi cameras and Reolink NVRs, including cameras connected directly to an NVR's integrated PoE ports. This gives integrators the flexibility to support everything from individual network or wireless cameras through to larger NVR-based surveillance systems.

The integration extends well beyond live video, with support for PTZ control, smart detection events and Control4 Connect push notifications. Intelligent events such as person, vehicle and animal detection can also be used within Control4 programming to trigger lighting, announcements and other automated actions, bringing Reolink surveillance into the wider smart home experience.

Chowmain releases Radio Browser driver for Control4. Radio Browser is a community-driven directory of internet radio stations from around the world, providing access to thousands of live streams across a wide range of countries, languages, genres and formats. The Chowmain Radio Browser driver brings this service directly into Control4 as a native music service. Users can browse, search and discover stations from the Control4 Listen interface and play them through Control4's digital audio system just like other supported music services.

The integration includes local station discovery, browsing by country, state / region, language and tag, as well as Most Clicked, Top Voted, Trending and Recently Changed stations. Station artwork and stream metadata are presented through the Control4 interface where available, providing a seamless internet radio experience without requiring a separate app or external device.

Earlier this week we released our native Google Cast driver for Control4 providing integration of music streaming via Google’s smart speakers and hubs. Today we are proud to release the Chowmain Google TV driver for Control4. This integration provides native bi-directional control and feedback for media players, streaming devices and set-top boxes running Google TV OS. The driver utilises the same communication method as the official Google TV app, eliminating the need for additional third-party software, middleware or hardware. Simply pair Control4 with the Google TV device and the driver will establish direct IP-based communication.

The driver provides real-time power and playback feedback, including On, Off, Play, Pause and Stop states, along with the title of the content currently playing. Because this feedback comes directly from the Google TV device, Control4 can respond regardless of whether playback was initiated from Control4, the Google TV remote, the Google TV app or through casting. This also enables playback-based automation, such as dimming the lights when a movie starts, raising them when playback is paused, and restoring them when playback stops.

Automatic room power-on functionality can be triggered when the Google TV device powers on or when playback changes to Playing. This is particularly useful when casting content directly to the device, allowing a customer to start casting from their phone and have Control4 automatically turn on the television, AV receiver or amplifier and configure the room for playback.

The driver also supports Control4 Mini Apps, allowing services such as Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video and other installed Google TV applications to be launched directly from the Control4 interface.

Compatible devices include the Google TV Streamer, Chromecast with Google TV and NVIDIA Shield. The driver is also compatible with other media players and set-top boxes running Google TV OS, provided they can be controlled using the official Google TV app.

Control4 already integrates with Google Home to let customers control lighting, shades and other smart-home devices using Google Assistant. The new Chowmain Google Cast driver complements that existing integration by bringing the audio side of Google Home and Google Cast into the Control4 ecosystem as well.

Customers can continue using the experience they already know, casting from their phone or saying “Hey Google, play music”, while Control4 gains visibility and control of the resulting audio session. The driver provides Now Playing information and artwork, playback control, volume and mute, automatic room on/off, keypad bindings, programming events, announcements and more.

This is particularly useful in homes where Google Home, Nest speakers or Nest Hubs coexist with a traditional Control4 audio system. Instead of having two completely independent audio experiences, the Google Cast device can now become part of the Control4 room while still retaining the convenience of Google voice control and mobile casting.
