Haraguchisan interview on Tonebook (English subtitles available, mostly)

Haraguchisan interview on Tonebook (English subtitles available, mostly)

A couple days ago I found an interesting little snippet on Insta, and today I found a longer version of it on YouTube. I'm not entirely sure what Tonebook is, since it's all in Japanese and my skills there are very VERY limited, but the interview contains a little bit about various parts of Haraguchisan's current and past - her sound, education, career beginnings, etc. Just set the CC to "Japanese (auto-generated) >> English" and while it's not complete or perfect, you'll be able to understand like 95% of it this way!

Mastery #31 - Dragon Quest 4 (aka Dragon Warrior 4), NES

Finishing up the Dragon Quest NES quadrilogy at last, after a long hiatus in the middle and having to do a WHOLE OTHER RUN to get one of the two missable Small Medals, I finally have all four of these Mastered! Now the question is, do I go on to DQ 5 on SNES, or start again with DQ 1/2 SNES? Maybe DQ 1/2 GBC? Or maybe something else entirely.

Is there anywhere to buy US tour merch online?

For context: I went to the Pomona/LA show, flew in from Seattle for one night only, but I traveled incredibly light. Just a tiny shoulder bag to hold a few essentials (toothbrush etc) and a tube for the VIP poster. So I didn't have room to carry much merch if I couldn't wear some of it. I got the hat, tour t-shirt, and patches, but I REALLY wanted the long-sleeve shirt too. Had zero room left to pack it, and I didn't want to wear long sleeves in that 95+ degree heat (I'm from the Seattle area! I'm used to 75, 80 tops, and I was dyin' haha), so I had to pass.

While I am happy with what I did get, and the long sleeve shirt would just be nice to have as well, I'm wondering if there are any resources to buy leftover tour merch online? I checked the Nemophila webshop a few times over the past week-and-a-half, but I haven't seen anything there.

I hit Gold in the Collect-a-Thon event!

Looks like I'm the 71st user to get there. Make it make money (iykyk)!

Might dabble some more and try for top 10, but I'm kind of ready to go back to nice long JRPGs, lol

Mastery #30 - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

Probably my absolute favorite original DS game, and one of my favorite games PERIOD, I really love revisiting 999 (and Virtue's Last Reward) every few years. I seem to always glean something new out of the story every time. Not for the faint of heart, but absolutely worth the experience (if you have the stomach to see some blood splatter and read some gory detail).

VIPs from Chicago - questions for you!

Hey! I posted a while back about the LA show being my first VIP for any concert ever, and I have a few follow up questions now that the first one has happened. I’d like to be prepared for my experience so I can both be efficient for the line and not look TOO stupid lol, thus -

  1. About how long did you get to spend with the band? Was there any time to say hello and such (30-60 seconds), or just assembly line through super quickly?

  2. What size is the signed poster? I won’t be able to leave the venue, so I plan to bring a small bag and a poster tube. I’d like to have as small a tube as possible while still protecting the poster.

  3. Not a question but the “special gift from Japan” - please do not tell me! I want to be surprised!

Thanks in advance!

Mastery #29 - Rocket: Robot on Wheels

THE TITLE OF THIS GAME IS A LIE!! ROCKET ONLY HAS ONE WHEEL!! "Rocket: Robot on a Wheel" is more like it!
Anyway, I did this as part of the Collect-a-thon event, went in completely blind and was very blown away by how good it is! This is the epitome of a hidden gem. Sure the camera is pretty bad, sometimes it actively fights against you, but the rest of the game is just really, really fun. I'm glad I stumbled across this thanks to the event!

Mastery #28 - Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights (GameCube)

Did this one for the Collect-a-thon event, but ended up having a lot of fun with it anyway. Who knew it was sort of a Metroidvania! And, as an older millennial, there were lots of nostalgia moments of watching reruns at my grandparents' house as a kid. Great game, and honestly no real complaints!

(edited for a typo)

Mastery #27 - Picross 3D

A very fun take on Picross! I played this on my AYN Thor and honestly, the hardest part was fighting my own stylus grip. Can’t even begin to guess how many times I misclicked because my stylus had slipped in my hand. Very much a me problem, and not a problem with the game.

Overall, a great little game, nice way to wind down and get real-life things off my mind without thinking a bunch (like in an RPG) before bed.

First time VIP to any show - questions…

So I’ve got a VIP ticket to Nemophila’s Pomona show (flying in from Seattle day-of) and want to make sure I get timing right, and have a couple other logistical questions. I’ve never been to a VIP at any show, ever, so I’m wondering:

  1. when should I arrive at the venue?
  2. what should I expect? Are these factory line “stand here get photo okay next” or might I have time to say something brief to the band (I’m a dork who has a sentence prepared to say in Japanese if I’m allowed to)
  3. do we get to enter the seating area early too? I’d love to grab a spot at the front of the pit on Haraguchi’s side if I can
  4. anything else to know about VIP stuff in general? Anything different from a normal ticket/admission, I mean.

And kinda 5) if I’m being naive about anything just let me know! I’m learnin’ stuff here.

Thanks in advance!

New to this sub, excited to share progress and see others' progress!

Hey everyone! I have been doing RetroAchievements pretty casually for a couple years now (one of my friends showed me, I got hooked), and have been branching out to some of the social stuff around it. I joined the Discord ages ago for announcements only, but Reddit is more my pace for occasional updates and peeks around.

So anyway, I'm interested primarily in three things:

  1. "I played this as a kid!"
  2. JRPGs
  3. Handheld games

The combos 1-2 and 1-3 of the above make it a must-play for me. I don't go for Mastery on every single game, but I do have a handful of those so far, of which I'm attaching a screenshot. I only do Hardcore but no judgement against Softcore players.

I'm always looking for recommendations too. Nothing quite like discovering a gem I've never heard of before coming to RA (this happened with Great Greed), so if anyone's got suggestions, hit me up! Lookin forward to sharing progress with everyone!

(minor edits for clarity and formatting)

Edit 2: totally forgot to mention, my RA username doesn't match my Reddit one. Over on RA I am ChronoDragoon42
