I was wondering if the refund hack still works? Just want to know if I cancel the flight, would I get the full refund or just the travel credit back?

For context, I am planning to book a flight from Sydney to Shanghai one way ticket for $803 with Qantas + China Eastern Airlines. I want to book with Cathay Airlines instead as I arrive to Shanghai earlier and I leave the day before.

I was wondering if I upgraded from my AMEX premium card to the AMEX ultimate card, would that damage my credit score? I did read saying it wasn't as it's not a hard enquiry but not sure if that's true. Could anyone confirm?
