What is this root growth?

Hi knowledgeable ones, can someone tell me what this growth is? Was digging up roots today, and these came up. Some other roots had them, too, but with only thin and scattered populations of the tiny rust-coloured balls. They are 2-3 mm in diameter.

Leafless rhododendrons: help please

Good morning knowledgeable ones.

I have numerous leafless rhododendrons and azaleas. Why would they have no leaves? Some bushes are bunches of sticks, some have a few poor-looking leaves. (See photos, which are of 3 plants.) They are in acidic, sandy soil at approx 1,000 m above sea level. I didn’t water then during summer and autumn. I haven’t fertilised them. And in autumn they were attacked by ?lace bug. Do these offer any clues as to my first steps to rescue them?

I recently moved from coastal subtropics to this temperate climate at altitude. Therefore I know almost nothing about gardening in my new climate. I inherited a garden full of rhododendrons. I thought nothing of them losing their leaves, thinking they were deciduous. I’ve now discovered that they are evergreen and should be covered in abundant glossy leaves.

I’m in Australia, so it is winter.

Thanks very much for your help :)

How do I store lemongrass long-term

Hi knowledgable hive mind, I have a big bunch of lemongrass (no longer in the soil). I can’t use all of it at once. How do you store your excess for long-term use? (I can’t replant it because I live in a frost area and have no glass house.)

Thank you :)🙏

Help! Coriander leaves curling

Can anyone tell me what is making my coriander leaves curl in on themselves? The camera picks up yellowing but to the human eye they look green. Lower leaves all normal looking.

The plants are a gift and came with the curl. I am west of Sydney at 1000 m altitude. Not coriander’s native climate to be sure. That could be a cause, but I’d like to know if it might be something else such as disease, predator, not enough of particular nutrients, etc. Plants not dehydrated.

Thanks for your help 🙏

Is this mould?

I’ve just started brewing kombucha. I wonder if the dark grey colored matter at the top of the photo is mould?

It has been fermenting for 4 days, nearly 5. During the first couple of days, the temperature fluctuated wildly from 15–30 degrees Celcius (54-86 F), but I’ve been able to set it up now to sit at 26 C/79 F.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and knowledge :)

Is it feasible to plant seedlings of shrubs (mostly local natives) in late autumn and winter in a temperate climate? Will they use this period of no above-ground growth to establish their roots? I have moved to the upper Blue Mountains from the lowland subtropics, so there’s a lot I suddenly no longer know about gardening! Grateful for your experience and wisdom, hive mind :)
