Manassas National Battlefield Park on Infrared Black and White Film

A few weeks ago I shared some digital false color infrared photos I took at Manassas National Battlefield Park. Since I use film about 75% of the time, I also wanted to try B&W infrared film. These were taken along side the previous set of photos.

Everything except the last shot was on a tripod. I tried to hand hold the last one but I wasn't stable enough with the added filter compensation. Not as noticeable scaled down for the web, but it's a bit blurry.

Manassas National Battlefield Park [Makina 67, Rollei IR 400 + Hoya R72]

I recently started experimenting with digital IR photography, but as someone who shoots film about 75% of the time, I wanted to try B&W IR film as well. I couldn’t find any info on using the Makina 67 for IR, but decided to test it. The camera did great, but I learned that b&w IR is more challenging than regular b&w which I personally find difficult already.

Great Falls + Shenandoah National Parks | Canon G1X | IR Chrome

Shortly after shooting false color infrared for the first time on my modified Canon G1X, I ordered the IR Chrome filter from Kolari. A series of captures taken at Great Falls and Shenandoah National Parks.

Manassas National Battlefield Park [Makina 67, Rollei IR 400 + Hoya R72]

I recently shot IR B&W film for the first time. I couldn't find any info on using the Makina 67 for IR but decided to give it a try. While I didn't shoot anything smaller than f11, the fixed lens doesn't seem to have any hotspot issues to that point.

Everything except the last shot was on a tripod. I tried to hand hold the last one but I wasn't stable enough. Not as noticeable scaled down for the web, but it's definitely blurry.

Manassas National Battlefield Park on False Color Infrared

I visited Manassas National Battlefield Park for the first time this past winter shortly after the snowcrete storm that covered the entire area. I shot mostly film and enjoyed every minute of photographing clean isolated scenes despite the single digit temps and brutal wind. I recently returned on a day that couldn't have more opposite weather to capture it with a digital infrared camera.

Shenandoah [Makina 67, Harman Switch Azure]

I don't often shoot experimental film stocks, but lately I've felt the need to break routine and part of that led me to try Harman Switch Azure. Since it's a false color film and I recently started shooting some IR as well, I took the scans and tried flipping the hue 180 degrees.

Here are some captures along with a couple of the flipped versions for comparison.

National Mall on False Color Infrared

I recently started experimenting with infrared photography. Here are some of my first false color infrared photos taken around the National Mall in DC the weekend before last.

National Mall - Washington, DC | Kolari 590nm | Canon G1X

I recently became interested in experimenting with infrared photography and a couple people I know recommended Kolari as a place to start. I was about to get one of their affordable point and shoot cameras when I remembered we had an old Canon G1X that was sitting in a drawer for the past decade. I planned to have Kolari full spectrum mod it but after speaking with them they said it's one of the few that doesn't need a replacement filter so I did it myself.

Here are some of my first false color infrared photos taken around the National Mall in DC. I jumped in fast and there's a lot to learn about post processing these types of images, but overall I'm happy with the early results.

[WTS][US-VA][H]Focal Bathys, Sennheiser HDB 630 [W] Paypal, Local Cash

I've been meaning to post these for some time but never got around to it. Prices include shipping CONUS and PayPal G&S. Not interested in trade at this time.

Focal Bathys - $375
- Good condition, original owner. These don't get much use so I figured it's time to let them go.

Sennheiser HDB 630 - $400
- Like new. I was excited to try these when they released so I bought at launch. Listened to them for about 2 hours and they've been in the case since. It wasn't the sound, I guess I just didn't have much use for them.

[S] [USA-VA] Sigma 17 f4 L-mount, Viltrox 13 f1.4 X-mount, Visoflex 2, Others

Doing some late spring cleaning and selling stuff that doesn't get enough use. All prices are shipped CONUS with PayPal G&S.

Sigma 17 f4 L-mount - $350
- Mint condition. I bought it for a trip last fall but didn't end up needing it. Used twice.

Viltrox 13 f1.4 XF Fuji X-mount - $250
- Great condition. I've had it for a few years but its use was mostly limited to astro which I don't shoot all that often.

Leica Visoflex 2 - $550
- Great condition. Thought I'd get more use out of this, but I don't shoot shallow or long enough to need it most of the time.

7Artisans 60 f2.8 II Fuji X-mount - $110
- Great condition. Used for film scanning with my Fuji system. I moved to full frame for scanning after a few months so it didn't get used after that.

TTArtisan 25 f2 Fuji X-mount - $45
- Like new. Not sure why I picked this up, I think I wanted to use it for streaming with the X-S20.

Laowa 85 f5.6 2x Macro M-mount - $350
- Great condition. Used this for film scanning for a while with an M11 before deciding to go L-mount. Worked well for this use case.

Kamlan 28 f1.4 Fuji X-mount - $50
- Good condition. Inexpensive manual focus lens with some character. I used this occasionally for video.

Cherry Blossoms | Makina 67 | Ektar 100

Ektar is one of those film stocks I really like, but don’t use nearly enough. Some captures taken with it during the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC earlier this year.

Colorado Sand Dunes Trip | Leica M6 | Kodak Portra 400

I recently spent a week in Colorado filming part of a documentary. After we wrapped I took an overnight trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park with family. The first shot is of Spanish Peaks which is visible off highway 160 along the way.
