With the MCU hype ramping up and >!Sadie Sink’s!< Jean Grey taking center stage, a ton of new fans are discovering the character. They're going to watch her rip apart the screen with raw telepathy and telekinesis (and maybe a bit of Phoenix), go read the comics, and then log into Marvel Rivals only to find… a generic fire mage.

What makes it so frustrating is how hard the Season 3 cinematic trailer kinda jebaited us (well...... me xD). The animation team built a lore-accurate masterpiece when we saw her fly around with the Phoenix Force, have her signature pink psionic crown flare up, pink power signature when stopping Hela's dagger, even giving a bit of phoenix force to Blade.

Sadly, the actual gameplay was a total let down. While I understand there is fundamentally nothing wrong with her kit (because it works and it is strong for several seasons), it remains.... uninspired and is just a Hela echo. Her "telekinesis" is just a generic ground-targeted explosion that stuns people.

Literally every other major Marvel game in history, from X-Men Legends and Ultimate Alliance to Marvel vs. Capcom, understood that Jean’s mind is her primary weapon, and the Phoenix fire is the power-up. Even in comics as Phoenix, this is the case. Heck, even in Marvel Cosmic Invasion, she has her TK and TP.

Instead, Rivals stripped all of that away just to give us a glorified "Fire Hela" skin.

This is the only modern iteration where she doesn't actually feel like Jean Grey or even Phoenix.

Do you think NetEase will ever cave to the pressure and give us a true Marvel Girl/Psionic variant? Are we gonna get a rework? Are we gonna get another role for her? Are they just going to give our psionic representation through team-ups? or are we permanently stuck with a fire shooter?

At this point, I don't even care anymore if she's DPS, Strat, or tank. I just want more Jean and less Phoenix. :(

TL;DR: The MCU is reminding everyone that Jean's primary weapons are Telepathy/Telekinesis, but Rivals stripped her down to a generic fire-mage Hela clone. Do you think we'll ever get more Jean in her kit?

With the very bloated duelist roster, who among them do you think could be reworked (or tweaked slightly) to strategist? Kit wise? Character antasy wise?

I'll start:

Reed - Not sure with his current kit but I always thought of him as someone who has lots of inventions. He could be like fox where he dashes to an ally and wraps himself around them, absorb damage, and release the absorbed damage in a small aoe around the ally. Ult can stay the same but also gives 50 overshield per bounce to allies and gives them a speed boost too.

Jean - Same kit, less damage. Primary fire now heals and sparks can be applied to both foes and allies alike. Can also headshot allies. TK can be a lifeweaver pull. Ult can stay the same but the aoe can also heal for a bit (it can also pop off sparks from allies for burst healing). At least this way, she won't be called a Hela skin. D:
