Random engine cuts out while driving, very brief, RPM instrument drops to zero. It restarts on its own as it is in gear and ignition key is on.
My '87 MB 300 CE has had an issue for years now. Basically the engine cuts out while driving for a short 1 second or 2. When that happens the RPM drops to zero. Since it happens while in motion it restarts itself...but my heart skips a couple of beats as well when that happens :-{
This is still a problem even after rebuilding the engine as it was burning a bit of oil due to worn out valve guides and other known issues for this cars. It has now 240,000 Km.
Has anybody experienced such failures and was able to resolve them? I figured I would ask before I start replacing really expensive stuff...
