As a non-american I've recently noticed this. There are a lot of american shows and movies with very explicit content that take place in highschool.

Most of the time, the school plays little to no part in the storyline. The characters never study and almost rarely attend any class .You can change the school with college or university and nothing would change.

In fact it would probably be more appropriate for the characters to be adults in college given the sexual material instead of being teenagers in school.

Also the characters generally behave more like adults in their 20s instead of teenagers so wouldn't it make more sense to write them as college or university students instead of writing them as highschoolers?

Like youtubers are obsessed with shitting on manhwas it's crazy. I admit there are some mid manhwas but there are so many manhwas that are really good but you never see them reviewing those manhwas.

There are so many good manga reviewers and mangas generally get trashed if they are extremely horrible but manhwas get dragged if they are slightly mediocre.

It isn't even GOOD reviews either, very rarely you'll find a review that is criticising actual character development, pacing, writing etc Yk constructive criticism.

I don't hate criticisms i just hate that the 'critisms' are extremely stupid.

Most of the times the reviews are I HATE THIS MANHWA or THIS MANHWA IS IMMORAL.

The amount of people who think subjective feelings equal objective criticism is just... like no you hating the morals of the mcs doesn't mean the mcs are badly written. Sometimes I think they deliberately review these webtoons like that for ragebait.

The funniest thing is whenever there is a darker webtoon targeted towards women everybody in the comments go

"girls are going to get badly influenced 🥺",

you never see this attitude with the hundreds of manhwas targeted towards men, as if women are SO immature, simple minded and braindead

That reading a webtoon is going to make them go "ALPHA MALE DADDY PLEASE CHOKE ME" irl.

When it comes to webtoons that are thrillers or action which contain just as much violence nobody seems to think "wait what about the girls?what if the girls become serial killers watching this?"

This only happens with romances because women obviously tear their brains through their ears and throw them out the window when reading romances. /s

And the amount of youtubers that title their videos with "THIS MANHWA SET FEMINISM BACK BY 100 YEARS" is astounding.

Honestly if feminism is so damn weak that a fucking corny romance manhwa sets it back by 100 years then feminism should just kill itself.

And don't even talk about the Fls

If an fl is strong and badass she's a Mary sue and a wish fulfillment.

If an fl is weaker and has a softer personality she's a self insert.

If an fl is realistic she's boring

All three types of fls get called Y/Ns regardless.

I dont know whether to call it misogyny but the female commenters that put women down for reading these webtoons and go "I don't read romance webtoons like these stupid women, i read action and thriller i am so smart and I do not understand these women" yk the patronising attitude gives me the ick.

Like you are not special or intellectual for not reading the popular romance webtoons on the front page.

Also what is going on with their obsession with teenage girls and middle aged women? Whenever a popular romance webtoon gets trashed everyone goes " only teenage girls and middle aged women read this shit" So something becomes automatically trashy because teenagers and middle aged women are the main audience? wow. I don't even know what to say.

And even if they do enjoy reading trashy manhwas why are they so offended ?

I am sorry for the long rant I needed to vent.

Why do so many mature american shows and movies take place in highschool?
