MPG dropped from 46/47 to 38/39 on highway after switching from OEM Hankook Kinergy to Michelin Defender2 — normal or something wrong?
I recently replaced my old/OEM Hankook Kinergy tires with Michelin Defender2 tires. Old tires: 91V New tires: 94H, not XL / not Extra Load
Same wheel size, and same tire size. Before the tire change, I was getting around 47 mpg on the interstate. After the Defender2s, I’m getting around 38 mpg on the interstate. City mpg seems mostly unchanged.
The car also feels like it slows down faster when coasting/free-rolling.
I got an alignment after installation and the shop said the numbers are now within spec.
Is this kind of mpg drop normal with Defender2s / new replacement tires?
