My thread keeps falling off the spool!

Hello! I’m a total beginner and found this sub super helpful with another question I had recently. I have both issue that I cannot figure out how to resolve… my thread keeps falling off the bottom of the spool, getting tangled around the spool pin, and then becoming so taught that it either snaps at the needle or bunches up the fabric.

I am using a Gutterman sew-all thread and have confirmed that I have the spool oriented correctly. I also have fully rethreaded the machine countless times and have confirmed I am threading it correctly.

The only thing that I have found to stop the thread from falling off the spool is to hold up the thread between the pin and the thread guide. However, I can only do this when I’m winding a bobbin.

Is there something I can do to prevent this or is this just an issue with the spool?

I have attached three pictures. One shows the thread falling off the bottom. Two shows what it looks like when I lift the spool up. Three shows how I hold up the thread to stop this.

Thank you in advance for helping me troubleshoot!!

Help! Fusible interfacing shrinking my fabric?

Hello! New sewer here. I have completed a total of two projects so far. 🤗

The first was a tote bag that required interfacing for the bottom to give it a bit of structure. The pattern called for the fabric and interfacing to be cut to the same size. After ironing it on, the cut piece of fabric shrunk and no longer fit with the rest of the piece for the pattern. I ended up cutting a new piece of fabric and assembling the bag without interfacing.

My second project was a little bookmark I threw together today. Same process - the interfacing was cut to the same dimensions as the piece of fabric is was glued to. However, after ironing it on - the piece was smaller. I’ve attached a picture of the difference. The light blue piece has the interfacing and was originally the same size as the gingham piece below it.

I am using Pellon 931TD Midweight Interfacing. I followed the directions that came with the product. What tips or tricks help are there so I can use interfacing without shrinking the fabric?

Thank you! ☺️
