[Online] [WoD] [VTM] [8pm PST] [Saturday Nights] [LGBTQ+ Friendly] [Beginners] Pretend to be Vampires? Be gay? Do crime? Join your new favorite Audhd sous chef in the Crimson Gutters of New York Citaaay?

UPDATE: My stars! I've finally been able to take a quick look at all these messages. The response has been WAY more than I could have ever expected. I wish I could scoop all of you into my bag and take everyone with me. Huge thank you to everyone that shot me a message, from the bottom of my heart. So cool. I'll be reading all these intently and should be reaching out within the next day or so here. If you don't hear from me, I hope to catch ya the next time around! 🖤

Good evening!

It's been a minute since I've lurked around the halls and corridors of LFG. My last haunt around here found me a few really lovely folks, who I'm fortunate enough to still get to play some make pretend with today.

We've hopped a couple of systems together, and traded the Game master's chair a few times. Being a player has offered me a lot. But, in recent weeks it has also made me pretty itchy too. Also shout out to having my hours cut, that has given me extra free time…

So I figured why not try to fill the void with some creativity instead of more existential dread. Or at the very least give myself, and hopefully you too a weekly distraction from a little bit of it. Maybe make some new friends while slaloming through the horrors along the way?

Okay! So! A little bit about me before I get on to the good stuff. I'm Alex, some friends call me Spooky. I'm a 30-something (He/They) working in the restaurant industry somewheres in the PNW.  Anxious, silly, weird. I dig movies, music, comics and of course TTRPGS. As a GM I focus on narrative and vibes. Character and story are my favorite. I do think rules are important, don't get me wrong. I just think there are many such cases where they can be bent or occasionally pushed gently into a corner for a moment so the story can breathe.

If you're still with me after all the rambling. Lets talk about what you're actually here for!

What are we playing?

Like the tags suggest, Vampire: The Masquerade! (V5) I've wanted to run a proper chronicle for so long now, and never really found the right group or enough gumption to branch into such a different system (Back when I was running only dnd as a wee-baby gm.) No better time than the now! My plan is to use The Crimson Gutter chronicle book as a jumping off point for our stories.

When and where?

Saturday Nights 8pm PST! I like to run 3-4 hour sessions, but I am flexible depending on what we like best. We'll use Discord for voice and Foundry for keeping character sheets, rolling dice, and sweet-sweet ambience.

The setting

Well of course the year has gotta be 2004!

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, The Lord Of The Rings reigning over the Oscars, Ugg boots, graphic tees, Razr flip-phones, spikey hair, low-rise jeans, and layers; so many layers. Usher's 'Yeah' is virtually inescapable. Nu Metal hasn't fully died yet. MySpace is the social hub of the internet…. I could go on forever, really.

The backdrop of our stories will be New York City.

Tone

I like to lean into the drama that the gothic punk genre and the like offers. It's impossible for the silliness to not break through. Just based on my nature. And also the WoD being utterly silly itself. I want to aim for a happy balance. Where the serious and dire moments are given their weight. And the slapstick (for the lack of a better term) can lift us for a moment or two.

Content warnings

Vampire is a game that deals with a lot of sensitive subject matter. We're playing monsters after all. Body horror, personal horror, political horror, gas lighting to the nth degree; are all common themes that tend to pop up among many others. Of course specific lines and veils will be discussed together in our session 0. I want our table to be comfortable and safe for everyone. This is just a general warning up front.

Who am I looking for?

3-4 18+ folks who dig roleplaying, and enjoy a focus on narrative and character development. Who are comfortable with embracing the grime, horror and ugliness of WoD. Hoping to find folks who are preferably new to the system, so we can all jump in together around the same level of experience. Obviously if you do have games under your belt you're welcome too! Just gotta put up with a novice behind the Storyteller's screen. If you're socially anxious, a silly goose, or maybe somewhere on the ADHD/ASD spectrums (or all of the above? Like me) you may get some bonus points haha. Really though. Just looking for a few cool people to hang out and tell some stories together.

If you're still here after all the reading, and you're keen on possibly joining me at the table. Feel free to drop me a message here on reddit including:

  • Your preferred name & pronouns
  • Your Age
  • A little about yourself
  • Your experience level with TTRPGS & VTM
  • Any hard lines and veils you may have
  • Your discord handle

Along with anything else you think is important. (Favorite cryptid? The Best Sandwich you've ever had? All-time movie or album?)

If selected, I'll reach out to you via discord!

I'll leave this post open for a few days, and mark it closed if, and when the player spots have been filled. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and potentially apply! Hopefully chat with you soon!
