Streak Achievements Update May 2026

Dear Redditors,

It is 21st of the month and it is time for the monthly streak tracker updates. Look at Basement Dwellers that massive spike 128K streak achievers! However, the ones who take the cake for this month is our super streakers.

The 700 streakers and Grass Touchers have done something common, which is kinda cool. They both have jumped their numbers more than two times from the last month.

I just did a small math and saw that Grass Touchers are less than 3% of 500 streakers and I don't even want to go beyond that. GTs you guys are so rare that it makes you guys legendary.

On a personal note I was able to achieve 150-day streak on May 19, 2026. Hoping to touch grass in 648 days. Happy streaking all.

Thank you

If you’ve been checking your weather app in Palakkad lately, you’ve probably seen the scary 41°C mark. But there is more to the story than just a high number. Ever wondered why you feel like you’re "burning" instead of just being "sweaty"?

Here is the science behind the Palakkad Heatwave:

1. The "Palakkad Gap" Effect ⛰️

Most of Kerala is protected by the Western Ghats, which block the dry, hot air from the Deccan Plateau. But Palakkad sits in a 32km-wide break in these mountains.

  • The Result: Like a giant natural funnel, this gap lets scorching inland winds from Tamil Nadu rush directly into the district. It turns Palakkad into Kerala’s "Heat Bowl."

2. The "Invisible Sweat" Paradox 💧

In Kochi or Trivandrum, you feel "sticky" and drenched in sweat. In Palakkad, you feel a burning sensation. Why?

  • The High-Speed Fan: The winds coming through the Gap act like a professional hair dryer.
  • The Science: You are sweating, but the wind evaporates it the micro-second it hits your skin.
  • The Sensation: Because the moisture is stripped away instantly, your skin loses its natural cooling shield. Instead of feeling wet, you feel like your skin is stinging or "toasting."

3. Humidity vs. Reality 🌡️

The app might say 29°C, but it feels like 34°C.

  • High humidity prevents the air from absorbing your body heat effectively. When you combine that with a UV Index of 13 (Extreme!), you aren't just dealing with heat—you're dealing with aggressive solar radiation that can cause a "sunburn" sensation in minutes.

4. Is relief coming? 🌦️

There is light at the end of the tunnel! The forecast shows thunderstorms heading our way by Monday.

  • These are the famous "Mango Showers" (Venalmazha). They are the atmosphere’s way of hitting the "reset" button before the actual Monsoon arrives in June.

Context: I was looking at the weather chart for Palakkad and noticed that diurnal temperature is quite a difference. In fact it is pretty good to be outside after 6 or 7 PM. So I took a screenshot and asked Gemini a few questions. After the short Q&A was over I asked Gemini to compile the discussion to an informative social media post. Hope I was able to shed some light to the already bright Palakkad skies.
