Abandoned Vadavannur Halt

Tucked away in Palakkad, Kerala, lies the silent Vadavannur Halt station, long abandoned but still carrying the aura of old railway journeys. Once used by local villagers, today it stands forgotten amidst the greenery.

What makes this halt truly remarkable is its backdrop – the Seethar Kund waterfalls cascading down the Nelliampathy ranges of the Western Ghats, right through the legendary Palakkad Gap.

Even without trains stopping here anymore, the scene is surreal: steel tracks leading into the mountains, electrified poles cutting across the sky, and waterfalls gleaming in the distance.

It feels like a perfect symbol of how rail heritage and nature coexist in India, even in places that time seems to have left behind.

👉 What do you think – should Indian Railways revive small halts like Vadavannur for eco-tourism and local connectivity, or preserve them as heritage landmarks?

Acoustic Cover of Empire Ants – Gorillaz ft. Little Dragon

“Empire Ants” by Gorillaz featuring Little Dragon explores modern life through the metaphor of an ant empire: repetitive routines, predetermined paths, exhaustion and the rare moments of clarity that come from stepping outside the cycle. Its atmospheric production and Little Dragon’s ethereal vocals make it one of the most distinctive tracks from Plastic Beach.

The spooky western ghat stretch from muthalamada , kollengode to nemara.

I have always found the Nelliyampathy Western Ghats stretch through Muthalamada, Kollengode, and Nemmara deeply unsettling. During the day, the huge mountains are beautiful and breathtaking. But as evening falls and mist starts covering the slopes, the whole place feels completely different—dark, eerie, and isolated.

At night, the empty plantation roads and forest edges feel like entering a place cut off from the rest of the world. The silence is heavy, broken only by strange sounds from the jungle. With all the local stories about sorcery and the area's history of secretive groups living in isolation, it is hard not to imagine that somewhere deep in those dark hills and forests, there may still be hidden places where Abhichara rituals are secretly performed at night.

What to do for a day in pallakad?

My husband and I have a free day this Saturday. We are staying at my parents place in sreekrishna Puram and want to do something on the weekend. Apart from the touristy tipu sultan fort and dam, is there anything else we can do? I want to show my husband (non-keralite) some kerala culture, but due to time constraints, limited to palakkad.

Thank you all in advance!

Food Spots near Palakkad Railway Station

I have booked a train ticket to Palakkad and will reach there around 11:15AM and have a second train from Palakkad at 1:30PM. I would like to know any food spots near the Palakkad Railway Station to have Lunch. Walkable distance preferred. Or are there any other must try spots worth trying even if it's in a 2km radius.?
