Recommendations for where to stay for Muslim travellers
Hello, asalaamu alaikum everyone,
My spouse and I are planning to travel to Zanzibar in July inshaAllah. We are hoping for some recommendations for budget/mid-range places to stay the fit the following criteria:
No alcohol served/sold on the premises. We are Muslim and we personally wish to avoid supporting businesses that sell alcohol. When choosing Zanzibar I naively thought because it was a majority Muslim region there wouldn’t be as much bars but in my initial research it seems almost every hotel I find has either a bar or a restaurant that sells alcohol.
Locally owned. We wish that our tourism benefits the local community and not rich foreigners that own a lot of the properties in Zanzibar.
We were thinking to spread our time out in different areas of the island so would be interested in recommendations from anywhere on the island that fit our two criteria (if possible). Thank you for any suggestions you might be able to share.
