Super Long Shot - Help Recovering Travel Journal and Photos

On our honeymoon our hotel room got robbed and they took all our bags. Whatever life happens. However they took our travel journal and then the camera. We don't want the camera back but we would love the photos. Don't know if any locals are on this sub, but if something like this ever turns up, would definitely mean the world to us to have them returned

Recommendations for where to stay for Muslim travellers

Hello, asalaamu alaikum everyone,

My spouse and I are planning to travel to Zanzibar in July inshaAllah. We are hoping for some recommendations for budget/mid-range places to stay the fit the following criteria:

  1. No alcohol served/sold on the premises. We are Muslim and we personally wish to avoid supporting businesses that sell alcohol. When choosing Zanzibar I naively thought because it was a majority Muslim region there wouldn’t be as much bars but in my initial research it seems almost every hotel I find has either a bar or a restaurant that sells alcohol.

  2. Locally owned. We wish that our tourism benefits the local community and not rich foreigners that own a lot of the properties in Zanzibar.

We were thinking to spread our time out in different areas of the island so would be interested in recommendations from anywhere on the island that fit our two criteria (if possible). Thank you for any suggestions you might be able to share.

African winter 26/27

I was asking about itineraries yesterday. and I came up with this. The only place I have been to on this Itinerary is Morocco, and I've never been to those specific places in Morocco. All the other places are new to me.

Notes: I'm a bohemian spirit. A painter and writer. I don't want anything too common (aka Marrakech/Bali)

November. Morocco: Essaouira, Taghazout (what other coastal towns are must-see). Leaving from Casablanca to Cairo

December. Two weeks in Cairo, Two Weeks Dahab. End the year back in Cairo (any Dahab recommendations?)

January. Chill month painting in Lamu. I'm very excited about this destination if anyone has any contacts there or has been, please let me know.

February. Beach life in Zanzibar.

March. I'm thinking Cape Town to end this adventure. Is that too cold? Could an alternative be Madagascar?

Here is a graphic ChatGpt spit out, it's not exactly the most accurate, lol.

What’s the best way to get customers for a diffuser business in hospitality businesses and home ?

Hey everyone,

I recently started a small aroma diffuser business selling both wholesale and retail diffusers, and I’ve been trying to understand the best way to reach the right customers.

My main target is:

- Hotels

- Villas

- Airbnb/apartments

- Restaurants

- Homes

I genuinely believe scent changes how a place feels and how people remember it, especially in hospitality spaces.

For those with experience in business, hospitality, Airbnb, marketing or even home decor, what would you recommend as the best way to approach potential customers.

I’d honestly appreciate any advice or ideas

Honeymoon in Zanzibar - Itinerary

Thanks all for your help!

I've previously posted about difficulties in finding the right hotels for my honeymoon in November, to Zanzibar (which will include a safari). I've narrowed it down to the following option:

  1. Staying 5 days in Tembo Kiwengwa Resort
  2. Fly out for Safari in mainland Tanzania (5 Days)
  3. Fly back to Zanzibar, and stay in Paje in a private villa for 3 nights (think Emerald Paje Villas or Abode II, as an example).

As a muslim, it is important to me to be able to provide my wife an opportunity to use a private pool or have some private time where there are not a lot of crowds, hence why I chose to end off the honeymoon with a private villa.

An initial question that I had was, is 5 days at Tembo Kiwengwa Resort too long?

Based on the above, do you think these accommodations seem appropriate? Any advice as to itinerary and what I can do would also be helpful. I'd like to have flexibility on itinerary so that if we choose to not to something on one day, we can, and likewise we can also do something if we wanted to.

Mnemba or Fanjove ?

we’re considering after the safari is ending the trip in mid-October with a private luxury island stay.

For those who’ve been to both, which one did you prefer and why: andBeyond Mnemba Island or Fanjove Private Island?

We’re looking for something very exclusive, beautiful water/beach, relaxing after safari, great service and overall a really special experience.

How is air travel these days?

I'll be visiting Zanzibar in a little over a month and I was curious how air travel was these days with all of the reporting of jet fuel shortages. Any insights?

I’ve read so many poor things about Zanzibar that I’m hesitant to go after safari.

We will be doing a Safari as a family of four with two teenagers. We really just want to relax, and we have seven nights to kill after safari. Would you spend them in Zanzibar? We were hoping to relax at the beach and not do too much but definitely like to see local life a little bit i it doesn’t sound quite as wonderful as I expected, though. Thoughts from people who have traveled as tourists Not interested in tour guides.

In 1875 Sultan Barghash bin Said of Zanzibar ratified a treaty to prohibit the import of slaves. 10k slaves would continue to be brought over from Africa to Zanzibar every month.

Sultan Barghash did not want to sign the treaty. He pleaded for more time to decide with the British while he accepted money from Arab slavers. The economy of Zanzibar relied entirely on the slave trade. Over three quarters of the population in Zanzibar were either slaves or concubines.

> A spear is held at each of my eyes. With which shall I choose to be pierced? [Emancipation and Post-emancipation in Zanzibar, page 48]

British naval patrol found that Arabs would routinely have 4 or 5 slaves in their Dhows and marked them as domestic servants rather than slaves. Arab slavers would continue to skirmish with British patrol up until the Zanzibar revolution, nearly a century after sultan Barghash signed the treaty.

Final image: Horrors of the Slave Trade. Result of an Arab Razzia. Royal Museums Greenwich, 1889.

The question that I propose to you: What if the British decided to ignore Zanzibar? How long would it have taken for the slave trade to conclude independent of any pressure by the sole superpower of the world at the time?

Stone Town for solo female traveller

Hi!

After exploring Tanzania mainland for 1 month with a group, I will finish off my trip with 6d/5n alone on Zanzibar.

Due to limited time and logistics with airport etc., my plan was to stay in Stone Town the entire time. I'm normally fond of just walking around, explore the historical cites, museums, wander around in the city/markets, read my book and shoot my photos. With 6 days to spend in/around Stone Town, what would you recommend me see and/or do? Any particular daytrips?

I'm used to travelling solo, and I always try to respect local customs with what I wear and how I behave. But I've been reading different experiences with Stone Town/Zanzibar, and want to know how precautious one needs to be? Specially as a female solo traveller. I was not planning on moving around a lot after dark and will try to find a local driver whom I can call when I need to go somewhere by car.

Any thoughs and/or tips are very welcome! Thanks:)

Payment Options

Hi

My husband & I will hopefully be travelling to Zanzibar in the first week of June and I would like to know regarding currency, especially in local markets. As a habit we dont generally carry cash and just tap our cards and I would like to know if this would work or is it necessary to have cash. Also if we do have cash is it mor advisable to have shillings or USD.

Sorry if my questions seem a bit stupid, also sorry for the format as I am on mobile

TIA

Looking for short stay recommendations

Like the title says, I'm looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for a place to stay for 2-3 nights in Zanzibar at the beginning of August! I will be hiking Kilimanjaro the week prior and I'm considering adding on a few days in Zanzibar because 1) I'll already be there and 2) relaxing and recovering on the beach for a couple days sounds much better than jumping on a 15 hour flight the day after summiting.

That being said, I've looked into everything and I'm overwhelmed by the options if I'm being honest. So I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me! The only thing I'm looking for is a nice beach (either part of the hotel or within a walkable/reasonable distance via taxi). I do not snorkel, and as much as I'd love to, I'm not trying to do any excursions/tours. A nice pool would also be okay if there's no beach! I'm happy to take a taxi or walk to a beach to see it and then return to my hotel.

I'm not looking for all-inclusive as I don't drink and I prefer to try local restaurants (even if not local cuisine) rather than eat hotel food.

I am taking this trip alone to celebrate my 30th so I'm okay with spending a little bit of money, but I by no means need anything luxury. I'd like to keep my stay under $300 per night but could swing $500/night. As a solo female traveler, I'm prioritizing safety so if I need to spend more than that to be in a safer area, I can definitely spend more. The peace of mind is worth it.

I'll take any and all recommendations, including places/areas to stay away from. Thank you!!

Zanzibar Recommendations /Plan

Hi all! My husband and I are going to be spending 4 nights / 5 days in Zanzibar after our safari. We would like a mix of exploring / snorkeling and scuba diving/ night life and good food. Our thoughts right now are:

- 2 nights in Nungwi

- 2 nights in Paje.

We’re looking for a good mix of relaxation and fun, and if anyone has any recommendations for stays that they loved and are unique we’d love to see! There’s a lot online and it’s overwhelming.

Thanks!
