It occurs to me that Strange New Worlds is going out of its way to mimic JJ Trek by having Pike as some kind of mentor to Kirk (not a fan of this, but I won’t digress). It’s likely going to be shown that he pushes or at least recommends that Kirk replace him… and April did the same for Pike.

But when Kirk met Harriman on the bridge of the B, it was pretty clear they didn’t know each other well. It seems like the most famous captain in fleet history would have a say in his replacement, at least to some degree…
